Summer reads?
I've noticed that not too many frequent the Book Nook thread so I figure I'll post here instead.

What books are you looking forward to reading this summer? What good books are you reading currently?

Read in the summer??? With the kids out of school? Pahahahahaha! My reading begins in September and ends the last day of school!

J/k.. it's not THAT bad but I have noticed that I decrease the number of books I read during the summer.. with the nice weather, putzing around in the garden and spending more time outdoors with the kids, I really don't have time!

I'm listening to Nighttime is my time - Mary Higgins Clark. Next up is James Patterson's London Bridges. It's does not have very good reviews but it's part of the Alex Cross series so I gotta read it.

I'm also reading a book about Abigail Adams.

OH - The Book Thief is soooo good!  Read I am the Messenger too which is Markus Zusak's other book.

I am reading all 10 of the Golden Sower intermediate nominees so I can lead a book club at school in the fall.  And since they are nominees, I know that they will be good.   :-D  The kids are I are enjoying Satch & Me together.  If your kids like baseball, I recommend it.  We aren't really into sports, but we are enjoying it anyway.  I am also reading some nonfiction about people who have travelled cross-crountry or around the world biking, boating, walking, etc.  Maybe with the price of gas, I will be travelling that way too. :?   And I need to get started on Local Wonders by Ted Kooser for book club.  It has been too wet to be outside much.

Re: Summer reads?
I'm still waiting to read the last Harry Potter book (didn't quite get there last summer, and the school year is too busy), planning to read Son of a Witch, and 19 Minutes

Any other suggestions?

My faves are:

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Widow for One Year
A Fine Balance
The Poisonwood Bible
The Nanny Diaries

Pretty much anything from Oprah's book club list interests me, and I like NYT Bestsellers too!

We left on vacation today, to Texas, and on the 3 hour plane ride, I started reading Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin, Shannon's suggestion.  Pretty good so far!

I love anything by Jodi Picoult. The only one I haven't ready of hers is the newest one, but I forget the name. That's next on my list.

I'm reading Outlander I saw it in the Book nook thread and decided to get it.   NOW if my kids would go to bed and sleep for 12 hours and let me read.....so far it is really really good.

Re: Summer reads?
I second the Fearless Fourteen!!!!  I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich and look forward to a new one every June.  They are the best series I have ever read.  I love her sense of humor and they take place about 15 minutes from where I live ironically.

The new James Patterson book, SAIL, looks interesting.

Re: Summer reads?
Widow for One Year  has looked interesting to me - perhaps I will get that one.

The last one I read was Namesake (jumpha lahiri)  but that was on a conference trip I had with no kids or family...  maybe I need to travel for work more.

A friend gave me for my b-day  The Last Lecture and The Canon (both sound great but probably will take me quite a while to get through in 10 minute snippets here and there)

And really with work right now and perhaps starting an intense Leadership Fellowship with lots of associated homework and reading who knows when I'll get to all the more interesting reads.

I read two while on vacation a couple of weeks ago.  Books read quickly when you are laying on a lounge by the beach.  I read Losing It, by Valeria Bertinelli and Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber.  Both fun and quick reads.
