Creating CD albums is a lot of fun! With this make & take project, you will be creating a quick page and then sharing it with others. When the project is complete, everyone who participated will receive a download link to a zip file containing ALL of the quick pages completed. Then you can create your final album with relative ease.
Please post here if you will participate and we will send you a download link to this FREE mini kit. Use this kit and accompanying template to create your CD quick page. Please send your completed quick page to Shelle Pukas no later than May 8th. You can send her a PM through ACOT with the download link (feel free to use You Send It to host your quick page).
In order to have some uniformity to the quick pages, it is requested that you follow these simple instructions.
1. Use the CD template provided in the zip file.
2. Only use products contained in this mini kit.
3. Use a shadow of -45 degrees (slighter shadow for papers, larger shadows for bigger elements). If you are not sure how to create shadowing, please leave your layout in layered format and send it to Kim Hill at kim (at) cgessentials (dot) com using a file sharing service such as http://www.YouSendIt.com.
4. Be sure to remove the shadowing from the INSIDE of any photo openings.
5. Save as PNG format.
On May 9th, you will receive the completed zip file of all the quick pages created at this crop. At this point you can begin creating the actual CD album. You will need the following tools:
- scissors or exacto knife
- photo paper or cardstock
- hole punch
- adhesive (such as Mod Podge, double stick tape, glue dots)
- spray fixative or acrylic sealer
- blank CDs or round chipboard (you may have to adjust the size of the quick pages a bit if you choose to use chipboard)
- round key ring or extra ribbon
Other specialty items you may wish to use for a more 3-dimensional look:
- ribbons
- glitter
- rub-ons
- alphas
- metal fasteners
- stickers
CREATING THE ALBUM:
1. Open the quick page in your photo editing software, and slip your photo under the photo opening.
2. Add journaling and a title if you want. You can do this on the computer, or wait til printed and do it with stickers/alphas.
3. Print the layout on photo paper or cardstock.
4. Cut out the quick page.
5. Lightly brush Mod Podge onto the CD or round chipboard and affix the layout on top. Smooth out bubbles. Take extra care when using a CD because of the round hole . . . it will warp your paper, but will dry and flatten back out in couple of days.
6. Repeat the above steps for all the pages you wish to complete. Be sure to use both the front and backs of the CDs or chipboard.
7. Wait a good 24 hours for the base layouts to dry. Then you can add 3-dimensional embellishments as suggested above.
8. When everything is good and secure, go ahead and punch out one hole in each CD or chipboard.
9. When all of the pages are completed use a round key ring or a strand of ribbon to secure all of the pages together.
