Re: The Red Tent
Did everyone actually like this book?  I checked it out of the library because there seemed to be so much interest here about it.  I didn't like it at all.  It started out good, the premise of the story was interesting, and I was able to ignore all the references to false gods and pagan rituals for a while even though this was supposed to be a story about Jacob's family.  But I had a serious problem with all the liberties the author took in twisting the story of Jacob and his family into something almost unrecognizable.  I was really turned off with the appearance of Rebecca and the way she was described.  And then with the way the Dinah & Shechem story was told, that's when I just quit reading.  I understand this was a fictional account, however the author showed nothing but disdain for God and a complete disrespect for a story that was very important in Biblical history.  I'm sorry if I'm giving too much away, but I was really disturbed by this book and I probably won't ever read anything by this author again.
