I would love to keep this list current. I'm always looking for both fiction and non-fiction books to read.

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is a must read. I've gotten so many people hooked on that series, even my non-reading Mom has read the first 6 books in as many weeks. :-D

There's some really good teen fiction out there too - I absolutely love the Uglies-Pretties-Specials-Extras series by Scott Westerfeld.

Re: Books that you read and recommend
Let's see a bunch of my favorites have been mentioned already, but here are mine.

Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand) - so far my all time fav.
The Angle of Repose (Wallace Stegner)
The Handmaid's Tale (Margaret Atwood)
Sense and Sensibility (Jane Austen)
To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee)

I have a literature degree so those are my more 'literature' related books, that I tend to read over and over. I also have some guilty pleasures like Stephen King and the Twilight Series. I also like reading my son's Harry Potter books. I like the Eragon series too by Christopher Paolini.
I am also trying to read the Bible through this year - it's pretty tough with all those 'begats and begottens.'

I guess my taste in books is like my taste in music - very eclectic.

I wish I had more time to read. I used to read all the time. The book I have read most recently that made the most impact on me was a Christian novel called "As Sure as the Dawn." I was unable to put it down. It was set in Roman gladiator times and I thought it was amazing!

Re: Books that you read and recommend
There are too many to name. The Kite Runner might be my absolute fave. Some of the classics llike Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Scarlett Letter, and To Kill a Mockingbird. My most recent read that I highly recommend is 19 Minutes by Jodi Piccoult. It's about a school shooting, but not probably what you think it will be about. You see so many different points of view, and it is really a book about family and social dynamics as well as social issues. It was fascinating reading, pure fiction, but also realistic in many ways.

I'm about to read Shanghai Girls. Has anyone read it?

I really liked the Kite Runner. I recently read My Sister's Keeper and loved loved it! Then I watched the movie..don't do it! The book was so good. My niece has some of her other books and she said they are really good so I am going to read a couple of them. I like the Sookie Stackhouse books as well. I haven't seen any of the series on HBO but the books are good. I also just read the new Stephen King novel Under the Dome. Highly recommend that one for any Stephen King fan.
