My DH picked up one last night.DH and I are both completely ignorant when it comes to gaming stuff. Do we need anything besides the basic gaming system to get started? We have a 7 year old, any suggestions on games that would be good for that age range? Anything else I need to know?TIA!

No the system should be enough. Great games for kids are the Wii Play (which comes with the system). We love Rayman - be ready to laugh your butt off. And then if they are into old school games the Super Mario is a good one too. Just be warned with the Wii Play and the Rayman you will want to play with him - it is addicting fun!
Wii addict checking in here.Ok here's what you need to know.It only comes with one remote so if more than one person wants to play, you're going to need to get some. ***looks around*** Psst! If you go buy Wii Play it comes with a free remote. :DThey are supposed to come with the rubber/jelly like protectors on them, if you didn't get them with yours go to www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequest.jsp and you can request them FREE. I got 4 for my house. Some games for 7 year olds.Mario Party 8Paper MarioWii CarnivalMario Galaxy (being released later this month) When we're all playing together, bowling gets picked most. That comes with Wii in the Wii Sports game. I picked up Guitar Hero 3 for my son for xmas. He's never played it before so maybe someone can chime in on if this is something a 7yr old can do.For fun..if you want, not necessary at all, but Nerf teamed up with Nintendo to make some cute accessories for the Wii Sports. Tennis racket, baseball bat, (I forget what the third thing is) they hook onto the remotes.
On a molecular level, I'm very busy.
If it didn't come with a memory card you will need one. (The basic box doesn't come with one.)I think that we had just as much fun creating our character as playing the games.Yes, wear the wristwrap so that the controller won't go flying. I also bought the controller "skins". It gives more grip to the controllers so that they are not slippery.
I was going to suggest getting an extra controller, too! Kids AND adults have fun playing this!!!!Thanks for the info on the "jackets." We will have to look into that!

This is just the advice I needed! LOL!I will definitely get another controller and a memory card, and I ordered some skins. Thanks Tracey for the link! DH picked up Super Paper Mario to go with it. I'll keep an eye out for the other games for Christmas. Thanks everyone!

just a secod for mario party 8 - its fun!! wii play is cool for kids too!
you need nunchucks. You cannot box and totally whip somebody's butt if you don't both have a nunchuck. We love it here! I second Rayman, that game completely cracks me up!
I 3rd the SUper Mario Party 8...my kids love it...and definetely get the extra controller{s} and beware ours goes through batteries quit a bit so keep plenty of batteries on hand for the controllers...DH loves playing the game that came with it that has bowling, baseball and tennis on it...and yes do not THROW the controller when you are bowling!!! It does come with a warning in the package {you should read, it's pretty funny}...have fun....

My son and his friends laughed and played all night when he first bought the Wii, just with the sports games that are on it! Fun sound! They love the bowling and the golf!Rayman makes us laugh our butts off too, and has some pretty fun music!
I was going to suggest as well that you need another controller and numbchuck so that more than just one person can play at a time. The Wii is some good fun though. You get really involved in it.A couple words of caution. Make sure the controller is tightened around the wrist as it can fly out of your hands, as well, make sure you're not standing too close together cuz you mgiht end up flailing your arms around and hit someone! hahaha! Telling ya, you get that involved with it!!
I love our Wii. I also think Rayman Raving Rabbids is the BEST game. Where else can you toss cows and do a shooting gallery with toilet plungers?! Fun for the whole family!
we got a wii about a month ago...played it twice! lol but it's super fun and if you get the sports pack that comes with it, the bowling is tons of fun. You will need to get a second controller if you both want to play at once.we got Happy Feet with it as a bonus and that's great for kids (and adults!) and any Mario games should be good

I was told by a WalMart associate (after looking around) "Come EARLY Sunday morning!" Just don't have the $ right now though.

We love the Wii and I second Mario Party 8 and Mario Carnival. You definitely need extra controllers depending on the # of people you have playing.
