Here ya go.
I don't measure anything. I just dump.
I use a slow cooker for simmering. (better than an air freshener!)
Mince about 1/2 big onion and saute in about 1/2 stick of butter.
While that is cooking, cut up 3-4 big white potatoes into tiny pieces.
Dump the rinsed off potatoes in with the onion and add a bottle of clam juice.
Let that simmer a while until the potatoes are about soft.
I use 4-6 cans of chopped or minced claims (Or a combination of them) and add a tiny bit of salt and lots of fresh pepper.
Let that simmer a bit. Add a pint of cream. You can use light cream for a lighter chowder but heavy cream will be creamier. Let that warm and add a few sprinkles of dill weed.
I serve it with rye toast or pumpernickle bread
