My DH wanted our son to be named Jake because his granddad called him Jake, no idea why, sinch my DH's name is Jeff.  Anyhow, I said I liked Nolan Michael (Nolan is DH's middle name, and DH's granddad's name- different granddad..)   I really  wanted him named Nolan Ryan Ripley, but DH wouldn't have it.  Turns out, for an 8 year old, he rocks at baseball. Jillian has her name because of DH's grandma, her name was Lillian, but she had to be  a "J" name.  So I loved the name Jillian.  Her middle name is Nicole.  Both kids have DH's initials.  JNR. Funny how DH named both kids and I didn't have much say.....

Poor Alexander didn't have a name for days after he was born!! We couldn't agree on one...Alexander was the only one that we both REALLY liked. His middle name is Julian, after my grandfather.

Were you called Jennifer because of "The Love Story" or something like that.  The movie that was big then.  My older sister was named Jennifer because of that show.  My name, Sarah, is also common.  I use to hate having such a common name, but now I live somewhere that it isn't so common.  As for my boys:  Well, my dh really thought he had made up my oldest ds name.  One night he came in from work all excited and said, "What about Brennan?  I just made it up?"  He was really disappointed when I found the name in a name book.  But we still loved the name and went with that.  My youngest ds we had a hard time deciding.  My dh wanted to call him after family members, but I don't like any of their family names.  We finally decided upon Connor since we want to stick along the lines of Irish names.

We had the same problem, Melissa, except both DH and I are/were teachers!  We wanted traditional family names, but not too common.  They both ended up with my side for first names and DH's side for middle names.  I wanted Jonathan for our first, but DH doesn't like it so he is Samuel William.  Wouldn't you know it - now there are several Sams!?.  After further discussion, discovered DH is agreeable toward the name John so we shortened Jonathan for our second and he is John Ernst.  And it's a good thing - DS really gets upset when someone calls him Jonathan.  Funny how we have had a girl's name since before we were married (Lorraine Grace - our mothers' middle names), but we end up with boys.Oh, yeah.  In going with family/ancestral names I joked about Sam being Ichabod Ebeneezer and calling him Icky.  He thinks if's funny.

We didn't really have a plan when it came to naming our kids. We did know that if it was a boy at any time, it would be Blaine after dh's grandfather.With Erynn we went in to the hospital knowing it was a girl, so I had a list of names that we couldn't agree on. About 8 hours into labor we decided that we should really narrow down a name. I THOUGHT that we had agreed on Jessica. But when I came back from recovery at 6 in the morning, the nurses were calling her Erin. I asked them a couple times what her name was since dh was sound asleep at that point, and they told me that he named her Erin. Well, since I wasn't sure how I like that, I decided to put my spin on it and changed the spelling up. Dh picked Grace for her middle name.With Leanna, I wanted a spanish sounding name since we had one Irish girl already. I liked Alianna, but when I mentioned to dh that Erynn might not be able to say it and might call the baby Aly, he nixed it. So I went with Leanna, but I wish I would have gone with Lianna for the spelling just because it's a little different. Lee is my MIL & SIL's middle name, and Ann is mine and my mom's middle name, so they are combined into Leanna. DH picked Brooke as the middle name.For #3, Dh wanted Danielle, but since we had a friend who died a couple years ago with that name, I wasn't sure how appropriate it would be. We're still close to the family and I didn't want it to be weird that we named our baby her same name. Anyway....I comprimised and came up with Dannica, and of course had to get my two N's in there to match the other girls. Since we knew that she would be the last baby, her middle name is Laine after Dh's grandpa Blaine.

my son derek got his name from all the grandfathers names mashed together (my step father is douglas and my father is eric = derek and his middle name John is my husbands dads first name)my daughter Madison Baylee Victoria got Madison just cause its the only name my husband and I could agree on and at the time it wasnt common(till we named her it then everyone named their child Madison) then my name is Victoria Lee so we incorporated Lee into Baylee and tacked Victoria on the endVickie

My ds' first name because not in our family that we knew of.  His middle name was after dh's best friend.DD's name, like ds', was because we didn't know of any family members already with that name.

My husband wanted to name a daughter Jennifer, but I said no, being that child of the 70's and having way to many friends with that name.  We decided on Gwen instead as the compromise.  Gwendolyn was too long with our last name so we went with Gwyneth.  I thought I had this name that she'd be the only one.  You could have knocked me over with a feather the first day of school when the teacher said, so this is the other Gwyneth.  Her middle name is Jeannine, my mother's name.Paige came about once we found out it was two girls.  We had Gwyneth and Aidan picked out.  I knew I wanted something short.  My great grandmothers maiden name was Page, so we picked that name from the narrowed down list.  She has my name for her middle name.BTW Scrapgram, my husband is named for his mother's OBGYN as well.  Hey, he's number four, the ideas must not have been flowing.  His middle name is his godfather.  Philip Augustus,  It sounds so regal.  Nice Irish boy with the Italian middle name.  The reality is that his younger brother should have been, since he is an OBGYN!  His first three sisters' middle names are Mary, Mary and Marie.  I'm not sure how the fourth got Geneveive.

My daughter is Arielle  pronuced like Sabtian in little merimaid says Ariel ( R-E-L)And yes, she was named after Ariel. My ex actually wanted to name her Ariel, but I changed the spelling and pronuced it like the crab.She gets her name mispronounced a lot, and she hates it. Also hates when people asks if she is named after the little mermaid.But when she sees Ariel at Disneyland she thinks it is so cool when Ariel asks her name. Because then she tells her and Ariel thinks it is way cool that she has the same name as her

I made a list of names and as soon as Ed saw Annabella, it was done. Growing up I got told I looked like a Jennifer a gazillion times and there were a gazillion Jennifers.

I was an Angie in the 70's and there were a few in my class '88...my kids let's see..Samantha Hope : we decided boyt or girl it would be Sam and she got my middle name..don't think she has too many Sam's in her class {freshman}Benjamin Alan: could only agree on Benjamin and ben for short...dh's middle name and spelt the same way..coincedently Sam & Ben have the exact same amount of letters in their names!{only Ben in his class so far 1st grade}Abigail Louisa: couldn't find a 1st and middle name with all the same letters so we had decided Abigail, Payton and Allisun...when I went into labor we thought we had another week so since I had NO DRUGS the 1st thing I said after she was born was "I GET TO NAME HER" and I named her Payton...well after all the commotion died down, DH said she just looks like and Abby Lou and boy does it fit!!! Louisa after DH's grandmother...don't think her name is very popularPeyton James:  well I got a Peyton after all whether he was a boy or not...loved the name and went with it...James after DH's grandfather and brother

Well, I had 2 other Lauras in my little class, and my last name was Daniels and one of the others' last name was Dillion, so we had to sit next to each other in practically every class...alphabetically.  We had lockers next to each other all 4 years, too.  I'm not sure where the name came from, but I'm glad that my mom didn't name me her first choice.  Dad's name was Ron, and she was going to name me Rhonda Elizabeth.  Please don't take offense if your name is Rhonda, but I do not like the name....plus, there was a very mean girl in my class named Rhonda, so I'm really glad we didn't have the same name.Edited to say:  No offense to bumbleby/Rhonda!  I just realized that was your name!  I have a next-door neighbor who is Rhonda and the name fits her....she is very nice....helps me forget the other really mean girl, you know?

I didn't name our older son.  His daddy did.  He named him Timothy.  His middle name is Davenport after his grandfather.  When we knew we were having the twins, I wanted "normal" names that were easy to spell and pronounced like they looked.  Wecame up with Ashley and Justin.  Also, with them being twins, I wanted them to be independent little people.  I didn't want their names to be anything alike.  Made it easier with a boy and a girl.  My name is Melanie and you would be surprised how many people can't pronounce that name.  It makes me mad when you can't pronounce my name.  If you don't know me and you don't know how to pronouce it, I probably won't be talking to you.  As far as the twins' names, I made a short list of the ones I liked and then broke it down into the first names and the middle names.  I just went through until I had one that sounded good together.

If I was twins my dad wanted to name me Sheatel and Shawntel. My mom didn't have any names picked out for me so she babysat a little girl named Tia and one named Nicole so thats how she came up with my name.For my DS I was looking through a magazine before I knew what I was having and saw the name Jaden and knew if I had a boy that was going to be his name. Originally he was going to be Joshua Jaden but my mom and grandmother didn't like Joshua so I told them if I can think of another name before he was born then I'll change it. So about 2 weeks before I had him I saw the preview for a walk to remember and saw the guys name Shane West and knew Jaden was going to be Jaden Shane. If Jaden would have been a girl, his dad picked out the name Alexis Marie. I picked out the boys name and he picked out the girls name. Later on I found out if I would have been a boy my parents were going to name me Robbie Shane so I think its kind of cool how it worked out.

When I was pregnant in 1999, I looked up a website of baby names and went to "new and manly" since we knew it was going to be a boy.  I saw "Mason" and really liked it.  We where originally going to go with "Mason Grant" but than dh decided he wanted his name in there, but not a jr. Dh is Kenneth David, so we named our son Kenneth Mason, because Mason Kenneth didn't sound good with our last name!Plus, I like the whole K. Mason Insertlastnamehere.

My parents were creative - Cassandra and Elisha. I used to wish for one of the popular names when I was a kid!When I got pregnant with DS, I wanted a name that wasn't wickedly popular, but nothing too bizarre either. DH was able to choose the boy name, and he liked Alexander Morgan, with the nickname Xander. I liked it, except for the Morgan. I convinced him to put his own name, Joseph, in there. So we have Alexander Joseph Bruno. That has a nice flow! Plus, like my name, Alexander is Greek and has the same number of letters.The girls name I had picked out was a bit more unusual, but has special significance. If Xander had been a girl, his name would've been Andromeda Rose. Rose for my grandmother. Andromeda would be shortened down to Annie, for my great grandmother, my best friend, and my mother (her middle name is Ann). More importantly, Andromeda is also Greek and the same number of letters as my name. And in Greek mythology, Andromeda was the daughter of Cassiopeia - one of my college nicknames. I've gotten a lot of flack about this name, though, and if baby time comes around again I'm not sure I'd keep Andromeda - might just go with Annie as the full name.
