If I was a young girl, I would say Polish because that is my heritage and my mom and aunt used to speak it in front of us when they didn't want us to know what they were talking about....but most everyone is gone now so I will say Spanish - took it in school but don't remember much - and with my daughter living in California, it would come in handy!!!!

My mother tongue....Afrikaans.  I understand it, but only really in a baby sense.  I was 5 when we moved to Canada, and since we all had to get into the school system, my parents spoke English only to get us to learn it.  Now I wish I'd concentrated more on remembering my mother tongue.  I'd love to teach my kids more than the basic baby words.

I have always, always wanted to speak another language fluently.....so, if I have to pick one, I would pick Italian.  I wa able to speak and understand enough of it to get around Italy for 6 weeks...but that was just word recognition.

Australian;-) Honestly, I'm not THAT dumb...but my dd and her friends were driving down to Santa Cruz and they borrowed one of the mom's GPS to help them get there. They were surprised to find that you could program in different languages for the directions. They went with Australian because they wanted an accent, but to not get lost!Actually, it would be Italian. I want to go there in the next few years!

Spanish - I understand more than I speak, and considering that I married into a Spanish-speaking family, that makes things hard sometimes.  If I weren't so lazy, I'd be fluent already.
