Re: How Do You Get Them To Listen To You???

OK first of all, I am thankful she isn't hurt and then ...

I so agree here ... they don't listen much less acknowledge that they are listening.  3 grown kids later, a few accidents (even BEFORE the license), and a lot of prayers and patience, they will now talk to us about how we aren't as dumb as they thought.  I believe teenagers think they are invincible and nothing can hurt them at least until something happens to them or maybe a friend(s) unfortunately.  My advice is to refrain from being too ready and willing to take them or pick them up should they need a ride and don't let them drive your vehicle ... she lost the convience of having a vehicle.  That is a privilege not a necessity.  I definitely would have her or him talk with the insurance company and at the same time be sure you or your dh talks to them so you know exactly where things stand.  Reassure her you believe it wasn't done intentionally just out of being careless and you love her and just don't want to see her hurt.

I wish you luck with this and please be patient!

Oh, she definitely wasn't going over the speed limit- that would've been impossible.  The road was snowy & icy.  There was one track down the middle of the road that you could keep your left tires on that was on pavement, couldn't see pavement any place else.  As I said, I would never have let her drive on it at all, had I known.  But we only had gotten less than 2" of snow for pity's sake, the day before.  She was going probably 45 mph, when she should've been going 25 mph, which is the speed her dad & I were going on our way to get her.  The patrolman didn't even cite her, can't believe it, how nice & how lucky.  He said it was due to road conditions, but I know that even on bad roads they can cite- failure to control vehicle, I guess he was just being nice.
