I'm running this project on BOINC and I'm sometimes getting FAAH units even though I don't have that project selected. I do have the option selected that allows work units from other projects to be sent, if none are available for the one(s) selected. Just wondering if there is enough work, since I'm getting the occasional FAAH unit? Thanks.

There is not a shortage of work units for Genome Comparison. It is probably that due to the scheduling of the work unit, your machine does not qualify for one in the feeder and thus get scheduled a FAAH work unit instead. Qualify doesn't mean system requirements but rather operating system.
Hope this helps. -Uplinger |

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not really sure what you're saying, though
---------------------------------------- Is there a setting I can change to only get the work units I want? (would unchecking the option to receive units from other projects fix it, or would I just sit there with no work units?) |

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not really sure what you're saying, though Is there a setting I can change to only get the work units I want? (would unchecking the option to receive units from other projects fix it, or would I just sit there with no work units?) Here, in the forum you can see in the page's TOP an option called MY GRID. Click there. The page with your grid will open, choose the option on left side called DEVICE MANAGER and them DEVICE PROFILES. Now you will see a list with profiles. You should have one called DEFAULT. Select this profile and you will be able to select in the bottom of the page your projects like HPF2 or HDC and others. Hope that it will help you :) ![]() |

Sometimes we used to have problems when a server would run out of ready work units even though there were plenty of work units waiting to move to the ready-to-send queue. As much server trouble as we have had recently, I would not ignore that possibility.

Getting GC's interlaced with HDC work, uninterruptedly. virtually on a 50/50 basis.....durations barely defer, but memory use are at the extreme opposite ends.

I had to quit this project... The W/U's run times are too short for me... I'll end up getting shutdown for violating my ISP's Fair Access Policy...
It''s a shame too as I like the project... ![]() |

That's a pity Nite Owl as GC gets transmitted in compressed format. I justy zipped one and it came to 400kb. If u do HDC, which on my machine is about the same run time, they get transmitted without compression and are about 5.5mb each time. That's 10x greater or more.
----------------------------------------The System Requirements page hopefully soon will indicate the file sizes that get transmitted....come to think, maybe even the estimated run-times for a reference machine like 2 wall-clock hours on a 2.5 ghz P4 (mine ;>). cheers.

Hi Nite Owl.
You can avoid this problem by switching to BOINC, then setting the times you will permit BOINC to connect to the Internet, and setting a large work buffer. You can easily set it up so that BOINC will do all its communication at a set time. |
