I lost track.
----------------------------------------1. Is HPF 2 back on again (fixed)? 2. If so, is it working on UD, Boinc or both? 3. Same questions for cancer. Thanks ![]() Oh wait, I have 1 more question: Would it be good if everyone moved to Boinc, or not? Or would there be a problem with the UD people? Or it doesn't matter... Hi halfcard,
Oh wait, I have 1 more question: Would it be good if everyone moved to Boinc, or not? Or would there be a problem with the UD people? Or it doesn't matter... BOINC is constantly improving. Version 5.4 has added compression, so we can send short files the way we do with UD. This is a new capability, so Genome Comparison is our first BOINC project to use compression. This means that only members with UD or BOINC 5.4+ can run Genome Comparison. We can't ask everyone to switch to BOINC until a number of BOINC difficulties are dealt with. First, it has to be easier to manage for a computer neophyte - BOINC Simple GUI. Second, it has to be easier to install. Right now somebody with a Pentium 4 with hyperthreading can install it to run 2 threads and eat up all their memory without understanding what they are doing. This ought to be an Advanced option. There are other difficulties such as the difficult programming necessary to make the Account Management System work on the WCG servers. But if you want to run BOINC - great! We expect that it will be our primary future system. Just needs a lot of work to make it suitable for everybody. Lawrence |

oops, that was a low key message ;>) .... 5.7.4 alpha, absolutely not supported, already shows how it's going to look with the BOiNC Simplified GUI. See the BOiNC Graphical Interface Nearing your Desktop ' thread.... even part of the prefs that are on the website can be set from that interface :D
