I'm running Vista on one machine ...this morning I logged on to it to find a mysterious crash over night ....no big deal Vista is in beta soooo... but after getting home from work I found WU.....B05513_0237_CTMA3C2-6-25-2-c1_1...an HDC WU @almost 13 hours CPU time ....00000000% and no decrease in projected time (2:50:03) this is with Boinc. Could be the WU, could be Vista ..I don't know?!?!?!but as of right now none of the quoram have completed this WU ...this is very strange that after hhmmmm....19 hours of crunching none of us have completed a 3 hour WU!?!?!?
----------------------------------------edit: I suspended the above WU and moved on to the next, it's working fine!!!! ![]() ![]() |

When running this work unit can you see some graphics?
When testing this work unit on my winXP machine, it makes it past the 0% mark. Also, can you check to see if there is a stderr.txt file in your slots directory. This would be found in your C:\Program Files\BOINC\slots\# in the # directory you should find the B05513_0237* files. Please paste the contents of this file. -Uplinger |

06-11-18 10:39:12|World Community Grid|Starting task B05501_0002_YTMA10B2-5-0-11-c1_2 using hdc version 514
----------------------------------------This WU, 1st in a new batch, that have much shorter predicted completion times than the previous... 2 hours opposed to 4.5. It started and froze after 40 seconds CPU time. Progress % still at 0.000. Taskmanager showed 95% idle, no time going to the science. After about 3 minutes it decided to continue. WinXP, SP2, updates thru the Nov.12 patches (but not booted to apply!). Display drivers all up to snuff. Will report if it NOT finishing or turning into mush (inconclusive/invalid)! In the Result Status page, the other 2 of the quorum are in Pending Validation.....always a good reassurance assistant! Device 34409 cheers

Sport,
I was able to test this on a few machines and all have progressed past the 0% that you were reporting. Nothing in the stderr.txt showed anything out of the ordinary. Also looking at the other 3 workunits that were attempted on this workunit, one has returned with a success. Unfortunately because I do not have access to a Vista machine I can not test the workunit. -Uplinger |

...just a thought.....
----------------------------------------would it be/ is it... possible for me to somehow abort and reload this same WU ...so as to try it again and see what happens?...the reason I'm going to this extreme is that sooner rather than later ...you guys are going to have to deal with vista....so I'm willing to be the Beta Vista tester...or something like that ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Sport at Nov 19, 2006 10:57:49 PM] |

Thanks for the offer Sport.
Until we can test Vista in-house, just report problems fully. Hopefully, they will be rare. Lawrence |
