Halfcard,
----------------------------------------u are a smart guy and have been around this forum quite a bit..... in the past and in the last few days the subject was covered as to what information u need to provide. We are not long distance mind readers. One more for the road..... Report: Device ID, not name (checked) Project that is running (checked) Approximate time is was downloaded (open) Is CPU time still being used and how much (open) Any observations in the graphics or front screen of the UD Agent (open) Wall-clock time still ticking (checked). Percent Progress (checked) Than, go to Taskmanager and kill the WCG ....exe process. UD will get a new work unit. cheers (sekerob scurrying off to get a long coffee)

well guess what, i tried to open task manager to check CPU but it said 'out of memory'!
----------------------------------------i logged out and then work began again at 0%, i don't know what unit. i did not 'kill' the work, just logged out and back in. maybe this machine memory is not good enough? i am beginning to think a little more memory is required than previously believed. this is an older machine with 256ram, minus 8ram shared graphics, plus 32ram added later. now at wcg 92% cpu, UDexe 8% cpu [Edit 5 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 11, 2006 11:05:51 AM] |

halfcard,
----------------------------------------there is an 'minimize to tray' option in taskmanager. take that and keep it running. It's always loaded on my machine....once in a while glace if CPU time is still in high use, which asserts to me that the Agent is crunching. check the system requirements page for HFP2 and verify that your machine has enough resource and also enough allocated disk space. Run a memory test, to make sure that is okay (See useful utilities in the Start Here FAQ forum section). If the WU crashed and started at zero, u probably got a new one, but u should have seen the uploading/downloading taking place on the UD agents front page......watch the next Statistics update and see if time/points were added to the device in My Grid. UD.exe only uses time when is is not minimized to the system tray i.e. u loose that 8% to crunching.....the price of a graphics picture. cheers

Hello halfcard,
256 MB and 'out of memory' is a very interesting observation. Originally Rosetta required 512 MB when doing high-resolution folding, but that was cut down. Lawrence |
