Multi CPU and 64bit Support

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew if the world community grid supports dual core processors? I am getting a Intel Core 2 Duo computer soon and would like the world community grid to take advantage of both cores so that I can finish workunits a lot faster. Also I was wondering if i upgrade to windows xp 64bit if world community grid would take advantage of 64 bit processing and therefore finish workunits even faster? I have been looking at the Folding@Home program which their client has support for both multi-cpu, 64bit, and even ATI GPU support. I think it would benefit greatly if the world community grid adds these features they will help the world even greatly. I think if Standford Univeristy can accomplish these benefits and features then IBM can as well.

Re: Multi CPU and 64bit Support

Hi seaquake2

If you change over to BOINC then both cores will be utilised - Check out the BOINC Forum. At the moment there is no native 64 Bit support but it will run that bit quicker on a 64 Bit OS. It's now a trade off between converting an already running project to 64 bit or boarding another project which could also help Humanity. Some projects, as we get ever quicker, will certainly not be around long enough to justify the time spent on a 64 Bit conversion.

So it's good and not so good news.

Welcome to the forum and happy crunching

Dave

Re: Multi CPU and 64bit Support

Hi there..... the difference between running native 32bit and 64bit is reportedly only about 7%. I'm not to technical, but understand that the computational part of the 64bit machines CPU's are still 32bit

Have a look around this forum for posts on the subject

cheers
