I'm having the same problem. Is BOINC the same as WCG. I never heard of it till I started researching this problem. just to clarify, WCG is the name for this whole project.you can use either BOINC or UD (the blue pill thing) to do the project, they both do the same work. Will I lose all my points and stuff by switching agents?

No, the BOINC points which are separately counted for this agent, will add up to your UD agent points, but only on the My Grid statistics page. BOINC's point system, which is a cross project global system shared with other distributed computing projects are different and are multiplied for consolidation purposes by 7 to come to an equivalent value 'as if' they were earned with the UD agent.

Well it's now more obvious when joining/registring @ WCG... just implemented: * Added support for pre-selecting a platform on the registration page (use: ?platform=boinc_win to get BOINC, mac for Mac, and linux for Linux) *

Note: This Redirector\Ports issue only applies to the 2007 Consumer (home user) suites, not the Enterprise products.
This issue was resolved by McAfee's patch released a few weeks ago, so this should no longer be an issue for anyone. You can check your McAfee SecurityCenter to confirm you have this patch - check View Details at the bottom right of the SecurityCenter home screen and you should have build 7.2.127 of SecurityCenter. Any builds prior to this mean you don't have that patch and you'll have to implement the workaround listed below. HTH Yes, I too was in this same situation with the new McAfee Suite 2007. I found the workaround: Add a new String Value (REG_SZ) called "443" with a value of "Ignore" to this reg key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\Redirector\Ports and either restart the McAfee Redirector Service in Services.msc or just reboot. Worked like a charm. Steerpike_ca |
