confused Problem with Device Profile.

Hi,
one of my machine's agent got stuck with one device profile, even after i changed ther profile on the website. Although the agent communicates with the server 4 times a day, the device profile didnt refresh all day. So i uninstalled the agent and installed again.

1. Now the device manager shows two devices of the same name ?

2. Is there a way to immeidately change the applicable device profile ?

Thanks

Re: Problem with Device Profile.

Hi, ashishtuli

Welcome.

Firstly I am not very familiar with the UD agent. I will help as best I can.

1. Now the device manager shows two devices of the same name ? There is nothing you can do to change this. Each time a device is registered it remains in the system forever. It will disappear from your registered devices display after a couple of weeks.

2. Is there a way to immeidately change the applicable device profile ? I am going to assume here that you attempted to change the 'default' profile. This is not possible. You will need to create a new profile and give it a unique name. Save that profile and then attach, your device, to it.

That's the best I can offer. If anybody sees something I have missed or have incorrect please feel free to help further.

Cheers. ozylynx smile

Re: Problem with Device Profile.

One user having two devices having the same name can cause problems, and perhaps results will not get saved by the server. It should be easy enough to change one of them to something else. You will now always have two or more devices and nothing can be done about that.

I have over 100 left over from several UDMonitor runs and a couple of crashed computers, but at the moment I have 3 active BOINC devices and 0 active UD devices. I have taken pains to give all of them different names.

Even if the device names fall off of the bottom of the 2 week display they are still there and active. Display all devices ever registered and all devices ever sending anything to check for duplicates. Problems went away from others when the duplicate names were fixed.

Re: Problem with Device Profile.

Fortunately the Device Name for UD agents is just a name, the Device ID is the relevant unchangeable unique part (can be seen in the UD Agent screen when hitting the button, right hand bottom part). On the WCG Website, go into the
Device Manager and change the name of the device u wish to use hence forth. No Fear of conflicts or loss of Work Units completed.

Opposed to UD Agent, for BOINC, one better thinks twice and choose the desired name carefully before hooking up a device , because it will be stuck to it for ever.

ciao

Re: Problem with Device Profile.

All points that were earned with machines not used in the last 14 days go to me ;>)

Just kidding...you can still see the device by selecting the display range from the drop down boxes. Your all time earnings are historical and cumulative.
