Re: Maximum Memory That Can Be Utilized

I have a somewhat related question,

Do you have any recomendations as to how long the hard drive should be left on?

Right now my hard drives shut off after 2 hrs. Is there a recomended time to preserve the hard drive? This machine is mostly idle (accept for running WCG).

If you are running the Agent all the time, your hard drives will likely never go idle because we periodically write checkpoint files to the disk. The time between disk writes can range from minutes to hours. If you set the time short enough, it will go idle, but will wake back up again when we need to write.

If you have more than one hard drive, the agent only writes to the drive it was installed on. The other will go to sleep (assuming nothing else is running that writes to that disk).

cool Re: Maximum Memory That Can Be Utilized

I had better add that when I was wondering about multiple hard drives while dealing with an earlier query, I got a sudden flurry of advisory posts telling me that this was really a BIOS issue, and that most BIOS implementations treated all hard drives the same way. If one gets woken up, then all spin up together, even though it is unnecessary. Still, this really depends on your particular system.
