Pentium4, 3 gigs: agent takes 50% of CPU time (though is set to 100%)

There is a dual core processor in my computer. May be that is the point? Any way.... Is there a way to make agent use 100% of CPU time somehow?

Thanks

The UD agent can't take advantage of dual core machines. You must migrate to BOINC.

It's annoying, but there it is. :-S

Here are the instructions for switching to BOINC: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm

Is it possible to run both UD agent and BOINC program at the same time?

It is possible, but not recommended. There is no need.

And what is the problem? Why it is not recommended?

It's mostly not recommended because there is no need. If you have BOINC running, then it will use your computing resources effectively, and there is no need for UD.

The reason it is strongly discouraged is because it uses a lot more memory. If you go from using UD on a dual core machine, you will suddenly find yourself using three times as much memory, and that may have a negative effect on your computer, since it circumvents the minimum requirements.

Re: Pentium4, 3 gigs: agent takes 50% of CPU time (though is set to 100%)

I have a slightly different take than Didactylos on this. I have run UD and BOINC on the same (dual core) machine. It had 2Gb of main memory. They both ran without problem. As Didactylos pointed out, it uses more memory than necessary because both the UD and BOINC agents are present along with the two science programs. If you just run BOINC then you have two science programs and only one agent.

I ran that configuration till I was confident in BOINC and then deleted the UD and changed my BOINC profile to run 2 science programs and everything has been smooth since.

Regards and Thank You for contributing.
