shock What ports to use with the LINKSYS WRT54GL Router ?!

Hi. I made a home network today and having trouble log on to the software's servers right after the installation, where you put your Password & Username. First couple of times it writes "username or password you have provided does not match the one in our records:. But I can log on to this website using the same username & password, so it's okay. Then after the 5 or so time, it suddenly writes:
"Unable to connect to the UD server.please try again. If you're using a Proxy, please verify the settings woth your network administrator".
I tried to create a new user, but it's still the same messages, phenomenon.

What should I do ?! Thanks !

There was a recent post from support saying that the only port on outward traffic to open is 443 (standard https port)...... the sites that should be permitted are the IP's 129.33.89.133+134 for server.worldcommunitygrid.org and secure.worldcommunitygrid.org.

If that does not do it, check your software firewall too.

So, I opened port forwarding of the 443 port to my PC's IP in the Router's 192.168.1.1 settings screen via the Internet Explorer browser. Still the same result.

1) Maybe the IP must be A static one, not the Router's DHCP Dynamic IP? although it doesn't seem (logically) to make a difference.

2) Could it be that you told me to open ip's ? it's impossible ! Ican only make PORT Forwarding, not IP Forwarding . . .
What did you mean I should do ?
BTW - Tnx.

Hi Alex

All the network details can be found here in the FAQ's

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=netconn

Are you sure the username password cobination that is reported isn't the settings required by your ISP for your ADSL connection?

Do you still have your modem connection live?

You shouldn't need to perform any port forwarding just enable NAT.

If you still don't have any luck post back

Dave

Port forwarding will not work on DHCP.....my personal pref is to use fixed IP i.e disable DHCP both in router and PCs. With your small internal network and multiple machines running UD agent, PF would neither be a solution....it could talk to only one machine. As eluded, it's the outward route on 443 that needs to be open. This and the WCG IPs can be set in the software firewall at machine level. Latter not necessary, but my config is very tight (i'd like to think ;>).

If u already have established browser traffic than the ISP name/password can be eliminated as a problem source.

Oh and given the very limited messaging of the UD agent, BOINC is the answer, but that's step 2 for when u have UD agent working.

Re: What ports to use with the LINKSYS WRT54GL Router ?!

Hey, I don't have a dialer, it's working and connecting to the internet right away after a fresh installation of my Windows Server 2003. Maybe the Server and not XP version contains some service blocking it ?

Anyway, I installed BOINC after reading others who came across the exactly same problem, inserted the WCG.org site inside and now BOINC works fine, doing the same FightAIDS@Home project and giving me the same points. I don't quite understood WTF is this program has to do with WCG, but it's doing the same job and can support all the GRID projects on the web. Great alternative.
