I can't believe how seriously some people are taking the points "competition". It's most amusing, and also desperately, desperately sad. :belm:
----------------------------------------Let's just get on with it, ok? It's a grid-computing collaboration trying to do some important science, not an infant school outing to the zoo. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 19, 2006 10:03:36 AM] |

I look at the competitions as a great way to bring people into DC. At XS there are over 36,000 registered members but only maybe 500 that do DC on a regular basis. That number is growing slowly. I just have to convince this crazed group of overlcockers that DC is a great use of the machines they have built. It's the competitive spirit that has brought new people in. Without the points, there would be many, many less. Bottom line to me is I don't care what peoples motivations are for doing DC as long as they do it. Results done is all that matters. My day will be "made" when I hear that something I've crunched has helped someone make a breakthrough in some medical app. ![]() |

I'm sorry to bring this back up, but there apparently has been no obvious change,
Here's what I have written via the "contact us" option on the home page.: ATTENTION PROJECT MANAGER. On 16/10/06 I took the unprecedented step of reporting an extremely offensive post in the forums. The post was not directed at myself but was nontheless one of the most genuinely offensive pieces of prose that I have ever had the misfortune to see. This post was reprinted in another thread and then followed by a stream of equally horrid posts in many and various threads. I have not received a reply to my complaint. Beyond the removal of the offensive posts there has been no action seen to be taken. I cannot continue to support any organisation that openly supports such activities and is seen by its inability to deal with such blatant behaviour in a transparent fashion, to condone such things. In the anticipation of further difficulties of the like in the future I am withdrawing my support for WCG and in no small measure for its sponsors including IBM. I will detach from the project in its entirety upon completion of work in progress. Sincerely. Keith Fogarty Bye. ozylynx ![]() |

Such drama. Let it rest already - sheesh. Eso, I believe that the only thing which should be under ones rug is the floor. I have never been tempted to report a post in the past, on any forum, but had no hesitation on the one in question. By not being 'seen to act' on this, it is giving a total 'green light' to everyone. Now anybody can attack another member, personally or, in any way that they want and have no worries of any kind of discipline or consequence. Not good enough! I for one will not join the ranks of the global apathy party just yet. Cheers. ozylynx ![]() |

I'm out of here til the place gets admins that can behave and are unbiased. Admins, or advisors as they call themselves here have never quite been as transparent as they should. First year I was here the whole board seemed geared to accomodate one team, including the admins roles. Tut tut. See you if/when the complaining stops and the place gets some transparency in it's moderation etc. XS.........Go for it Crunchers Inc.....go for it Right, back to team 47537.......fold on ![]() Hey Viao, nice to see you again if only briefly.... Seems some things never change. I had great hopes for changes at the start of the year when the CA's were shuffled and lost powers to close threads and stop acting like they owned the place. I hung in after that for a while and helped BC, but my heart was not in crunching on WCG. I gave my million plus points to WCG (UD) and called it quits. All Tony and I had asked for was an apology from the admins involved, which we never got , but got an apology from the Project manager instead. Go figure. As soon as I finish my contract I will be back on and will join you at F@H. With Boinc and F@H , there are other projects worthy of help other than WCG ............. Flashes a smile and returns to obscurity..... |
