firewall?

I was wondering what some of you use for a Windows firewall? Right now I use ZoneAlarm but don't really care for it as it's a bit of a resource hog. I really need something that lets me control ports. I would prefer one that's free too! biggrin

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Jeff

Re: firewall?

Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall....very happy, can be had for free, or at 19.95 US per annum update subscription with extra config features (u'd barely miss) and low memory footprint :>)

Sygate Personal Firewall Free for personal use

The business

Mind you having said that since I got my Netgear Router it really is just paranoia as the Router has the firewall built in.

You've got to watch the Script Kiddies I have living in our house though - 2 teenage daughters - Dad needs a firewall biggrin

Free ZoneAlarm works in both directions and can be password protected.

Right now I use ZoneAlarm but don't really care for it as it's a bit of a resource hog.

Hello Jeff
As usual I take the "safe" side instead of the Feel good side.
I say to Stick with the Best Free Firewall on the net.
Buying more ram would be "Smarter" IMHO.

Re: firewall?

Thanks for the replies. ZA has been good lately (for a while there it had memory leaks like crazy). I have a good 1GB of RAM so I don't have any problems there.

I'd consider sticking with ZA if it let me control specific ports. It seems to block some of my emule ports even when I tell it to allow emule to have client & server full access.

Unfortunately only the pro version of ZA allows port control.

So I think I'll try Kerio first :)

I've had some issues too.

Re: firewall?

If u have a router in-between, u need port forwarding activated in there http://www.portforward.com/

I never told u to pass the selected ports + the UDP ports 4 higher (fall-back) ;>)

Re: firewall?

Yea I already have the ports forwarded in the router. ZA seems to be rather fickle about them though - sometimes it allows them and sometimes it blocks them - no rhyme or reason that I can see :)

Re: firewall?
