Hi, Every time I boot up into Vista my grid agent says it is sending results back and then loads up a new task. Is there anything I can do to keep it working on the task at hand instead of acting like it has completed and getting a new WU ?? I know this is a beta version of Vista and all that but any sugestions?? Thanks !!!

Hello BlackAdder1,
I do not know anything about Vista. I suspect that it might have increased security preventing your UD client from writing backup files. You might try examining your WCG subdirectories to make sure that the checkpoint file is being regularly updated while you are running. Another possibility is to try BOINC and see if that works with Vista. Lawrence |

I checked last night and this morning and it does not seem to be writing the checkpoint files until the wu is done. It seems to have all the permissions it needs...any further idea's ???

Hi BlackAdder1,
Vista RC1 is still a mystery. You can try downloading BOINC and run both UD and BOINC simultaneously for a while. If one works and the other doesn't, then . . . . there is an obvious solution. Lawrence |

A WU with few or no segmentation but finishing......continue to feel we're not getting the complete info, like ...."writing the checkpoint files until the wu is done", then fetched a new one and result returning additional points in my agent?

It runs the wu thru to completion, the time stamp on the receptor a,c,d map ect. seems to be when the wu was downloaded and the process started, no further updated time stamps even hours into the wu.The one running now has run for 4 hours 22 minutes and is 65% done. The time stamp on the map files is 7:01 am and it is 11:23 am now.....I don't know what else to say...the ud agent crunches the wu but does not update the saved files until it sends the info back. If I stop and restart the client it will send back what it has done and get a new wu and start as usual. I have run Boinc on Vista but not RC1, just the beta2 version. When this WU completes I will cut it off and try Boinc to see if it check points the files any better.

Hello BlackAdder1,
If I stop and restart the client it will send back what it has done and get a new wu and start as usual. This is the way it is supposed to behave if something has gone wrong with the check point file. I do not have Vista RC1 to experiment with, but it certainly sounds like a write permission problem caused by Vista's upgraded security. Lawrence |
