The English fought a long battle in Strasbourg courts to get their diluted 'like' products to retain the label 'chocolate'. Finnish, Swiss, Belgian is best, Italian does not put itself to shame......at least they are not the milky way.
----------------------------------------Oh and no more than 40 grammes of pure chocolate equivalent per day, else the upper becomes a serious downer.....for u in more than one way ![]()

Cadbury's chocolate rules! http://www.cadbury.co.uk
----------------------------------------They actually make several kinds of CHOCOLATE CONFECTIONARY. To make it clear, and with exercise of COMMON SENSE they call them MILK CHOCOLATE (a recipe with more MILK and sugar in it), PLAIN or DARK CHOCOLATE, (for a less sweet, more sophisticated palate) and WHITE CHOCOLATE (for children - of all ages) If this is too difficult for European Beurocracy to grasp, I suggest we drop the word Chocolate and use "Thermosetting confectionary made with Milk, Sugar, Cocoa solids and Cocoa Butter" or something. ALL Chocolate is gorgeous, and you do not have to be female and hormonally challenged to think so! What else have we been in trouble with? ELDERFLOWER CHAMPAGNE! http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A593363 Only a moron would feel misled by a bottle labled ELDERFLOWER CHAMPAGNE! If you ARE misled, be happy, because you are unlikely to be able to afford or appreciate the other stuff. Sausages - Perhaps this should be "Emulsified High-Fat Offal Tube" (From "Yes Minister"). We have over 450 regional sausages in the UK and we eat lots - see http://sausagefans.com If our Sausages contain less meat and more Cereals this is a nutritionally sound practice. As you know, we english are always borrowing words (and in return you can have "Sandwich" and "weekend") - even Sausage is borrowed - see Wikipaedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage - "The word sausage is derived from Old French saussiche, from the Latin word salsus, meaning salted. The word botulism is derived from the Latin word for sausage, botulus." I am grateful we chose the french option. ( BTW - I have not tried Italian Sausages - although Sek may want to send me some after this ) The moral is - wherever you prefer to get your Sausages - ALWAYS COOK THEM WELL ![]() And hands off the cheeses! We have as many as anyone else and we have our own ideas! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dirk Gently at Sep 30, 2006 1:08:14 PM] |

UK chocolate may not be up to the standards of European chocolate, but I understand it is infinitely better than US chocolate.
This fact is slightly masked by the fact that the Cadburys we love so much is produced in the US by Hersheys, and instead of using real chocolate, they sell the same old Hershey crap under the Cadbury name. I understand Americans who have tried real Cadbury milky goodness find this reprehensible, and go to great lengths to get the real deal imported. I swear Cadburys put extra addictive stuff in it, along with all the sugar. Wheee! |
