What is the difference between what Human Proteome Folding does and what Folding@home does? After reading this question in the FAQ, I am wondering if this project would more be accurate if we allowed the Folding@home project to complete so that we understood HOW proteins fold dynamically. I would think understanding how proteins fold and why they do not fold would have been the first step towards a project like this. If we do not fully understand this process, how can we trust the results of THIS project? |

The Folding@home project is REAL science. The results of the number-crunching just give the researchers tips and hints to help them come up with insights. There is no guarantee that the resulting insights will greatly increase our ability to determine just how proteins fold, though we can and do hope that they will. [Big Grin] I have a picture in my mind of Dr. Richard Bonneau waiting impatiently outside the office of a Folding@home researcher, tapping his foot and glancing impatiently at his watch, waiting for the Big Breakthrough so he can get on with his research. [Grin and Shake Head] We are pushing all along the line, trying to make progress where we can. Let's hope every project meets with signal success!
