Just a bit of a curiosity. I've noticed that the lastest FAAH WU's I'm getting have an estimated time to completion that's 50% higher than prior WU's. I'm guessing it's just something about that batch of WU's but was wondering.

hi keithhenry,
----------------------------------------Have asked for it, yesterday another member posted a link to a SIMAP batch listing as a sample, u would like it (inferred), Rosetta does it, Grid.org does it, AND i hope WCG will do it on their next website revision (overdue)....... posting a wee message that a new batch is loaded with any particulars. The very latest I've crunched have the names below and process in steady pace at 7.6 to 8.1 CPU hours on 2.53ghz....no different from anything before. ciao faah0789_ bdb247_ mx1iiq_ 01 faah0800_ bdb393_ mx1kj7_ dry_ 0B faah0800_ bdb397_ mx1kj7_ 02 faah0800_ bdb308_ mx1kjf_ dry_ 03 We have a Forum Feature Wishlist thread (barely anyone has posted a thought).... why not start Website Feature Wishlist thread .....might even exists, and if it does it's buried. ciao

I'm guessing it's just something about that batch of WU's but was wondering. Been pondering that one myself the last few days! Same thing here but more like 33% increase in time for my machines. Six machines ranging from 1Ghz PIII to XP3200 have all increased in time taken to crunch FAAH. No problems though, just curious! ![]() |

Hi all
I have had the guesstimated time rise from 4 hours to 5 hours 20 minutes. In reality though the actual time to process a FAAH WU has still stayed the same at around a fraction under 4 hours. Incidentally the HDC WU's are still reporting the same guesstimated time to completion. Cheers |

We modified the 'estimated' value sent from the server to better reflect the actual time computed. The values for the Help Defeat Cancer and FightAIDS@Home were relatively too close together and both were off a bit so we are correcting that.
Your computers take the value that we estimate and then apply a fudge factor based on previous work you have done for us. This previous fudge factor is still being applied but as your computer does more work for us it will adapt to the current value. This will have the biggest impact on users who switch between crunching Help Defeat Cancer and FightAIDS@Home workunits as it will allow the agent to more accurately predict how much time is left. |

Ah.....Thanks Kevin. Sounds like I should see my "To completion" estimates drop some - at least for HDC. Those were usually at least double of the actual. FAAH was pretty accurate. I understand that BOINC presumes that only one project is running per site. With WCG running multiple projects, that appears to complicate things for you.

Hi. Another thing thats been bugging me is the "dry" thing in the work unit names. Sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't. What does this "dry" thing mean?
