Well, looks like "my online team" is clearly the best supported IF the support is measured solely by website.
It only has 11 members with 5 being British and the team captain being Canadian. There is an added benefit to being on the team America (USA). It increases the conversational intrigue when you tell people about this project and that you are the leading contributer to the USA team efforts. You will also be able to say that your efforts directly increased the research of this team to push past that of France and Canada. |

Wow, I think UNiRAC had it right... this thread IS insane!
Well, back refreshed from my weekend jaunt to San Francisco, I thought I'd let y'all know that late Friday I decided to join the America (USA) team. For now. I realized that a week or so on that team can probably help get them over that hump and overtake the French team to gain a spot in the top three. :-) (Not that I have anything against the French) My "crunch power" is a little lower right now, as our renderfarm is being hit pretty hard right now for some big projects, but I still managed to narrow the gap between the two teams quite a bit over the past few days. :-) (and I'm now in 2nd place for the team) I dunno how long I'll stay there once we take #3... depends on any number of factors, including the imminent website, overall warm fuzzies, etc. Hey, maybe I'll make a game of jumping from team to team every few weeks, just give teams that need a bit of a boost some help, until I find one that seems to really be "me". :-) I'll keep monitoring this thread and this forum to see where the fun takes us next. ;-) |

Oh Crap - give us a break. Website? Fuzzies?
How much ego stroking do you want????? It's getting a little pathetic. Go be a team by yourself again. Now we know why you were a team of 1 for soooo long.....its really "you"..... |

Now we know why you were a team of 1 for soooo long.....its really "you"..... Jeezus, hj... bitter much? This team crap is all in good fun, after all. The numbers go to the project whether or not I'm a member of ANY team. For the record, I was a team of one because there clearly weren't a lot of people on this project from the burning man project, otherwise I would have had more than the one member join up. A sense of community is a NICE thing. MyOnlineTeam, as an example, is doing a bangup job of providing warm fuzzies and a sense of community among it's members by way of it's website, since the WCG doesn't really offer much in the way inter-team communication capability at this point. Forgive me for hoping for something similar in a larger team. If you are representing the rest of your team, it appears I made the right choice avoiding your team. Although based on the pleasant nature of most canadians I have met, I'll give the rest of your team and country the benefit of the doubt and assume you are just an anomalous jerk... or someone having a really bad day who owes me an apology. |

it appears I made the right choice avoiding your team You were not going to join "My" team anyways. - lol And for the record: we are all probably getting a little tired of people who don't even "Own" the equipment that they are contributing to the grid making off like some kind of big wig that is personally sacrificing money and machine life. It's awesome that you have the means to add to this project in a massive way, but most of the average people in here have to pay for electricty and pay for their machines and they NEVER post "Who wants me????" and "Come and try to make me happy and I MIGHT join your team" pathetic messages. I am an IT manager as well, and have access to over 300 machines that I could put this software on. Should I now start a thread asking teams to vie for that power? Phffffft I say. And face it by looking at your posts. I'm currently ranked #2 in points generated, #5 in total CPU time, and #13 in results returned. So I bring a li'l something to the table. ;-) I dunno how long I'll stay there once we take #3... depends on any number of factors, including the imminent website, overall warm fuzzies, etc. Hey, maybe I'll make a game of jumping from team to team every few weeks, just give teams that need a bit of a boost some help, until I find one that seems to really be "me". :-) You want stroking..... Am I wrong? Should I apoligize? Although based on the pleasant nature of most canadians I have met, I'll give the rest of your team and country the benefit of the doubt and assume you are just an anomalous I'm not going to bring how different Countries "should" act, into this thread as that is door I don't think anyone in these forums wants to open... I was a little grumpy when I wrote that post, hmmmm, I'm still a little grumpy I think. Well anyways, I'm not trying to be overly contentious it just seems to come naturally after reading these posts. ![]() |

it appears I made the right choice avoiding your team You were not going to join "My" team anyways. - lol And this changes anything how, exactly? I still made the correct decision, regardless of when I came to it. And for the record: we are all probably getting a little tired of people who don't even "Own" the equipment that they are contributing to the grid making off like some kind of big wig that is personally sacrificing money and machine life. Well, it's clear you are an expert on my personal situation now, isn't it? For the record, several of the machines ARE my personal machines, and I DO pay for the electricity of those, when they are not being use at work. So you are a bit off the mark there. And yes, I actually did obtain permission to put the company's machines to use for the project. See above re electricity. As for posting, well, you could if you want, but it seems you are happy with the team you are on. I wasn't, since the community I had formed a team to represent is poorly represented on this project. So I was looking for a little more interaction, and I thought it might be fun to find out what the most interesting, dynamic team was for me to join, rather than being content to sit back and watch the numbers add up, or install the software and forget it. You appear offended by this. Phffffft I say, back to you. Am I wrong? Yes. Interaction is not the same as stroking. This post started out fun and light... in one fell swoop, you managed to turn it mean and nasty. Congratulations, you must feel great about your success. Should I apoligize? *I* think so. Graham, too, seems to think your post something was less than polite. You, and possibly others, may disagree. I'll live either way. Although based on the pleasant nature of most Canadians I have met, I'll give the rest of your team and country the benefit of the doubt and assume you are just an anomalous I'm not going to bring how different Countries "should" act, into this thread as that is door I don't think anyone in these forums wants to open... I think we're both in agreement on that point, actually... in more ways than one. Nonetheless, the point that Graham made a post or two back seems to quite valid, and your earlier claims of "politeness" seems a little silly in light of these last few posts. Had you not gone our of your way to stress your claims of politeness, as an ambassador to your team, only to veer off sharply later in the same thread, I would not have mentioned it. I was a little grumpy when I wrote that post, hmmmm, I'm still a little grumpy I think. Well anyways, I'm not trying to be overly contentious it just seems to come naturally after reading these posts. ![]() That was *almost* like an apology. I, too, am sorry if you took something I said personally. From my side, I can promise that there has been nothing but goodwill intended for these posts. And I note that I have only made a couple posts to this 40+ post thread... the posts of others are quite beyond my control. Shall we let bygones be bygones? |

Ok, I apologize with some points.
claims of "politeness" seems a little silly in light of these last few posts. -Not everyone wants the sickly sweet fake politeness that is usual in forums. Sometimes you have to be a little more direct to solidify the point someone is making. We now know more about you and what you stand for from this little interaction we are having than we ever did in the dozens upon dozens of posts this thread has seen. So I was looking for a little more interaction, and I thought it might be fun to find out what the most interesting, dynamic team was for me to join -This is real, dynamic, interaction dude. Better than that stuff like "Join My Team CompuDude...Your the best, man!" that team advocates are posting to sway you. I always try to keep it real and sometimes that means saying what you feel. But your right, this Threads degradation is not your fault. This post started out fun and light... in one fell swoop, you managed to turn it mean and nasty. -Well I don't think its mean AND nasty dude... lol We shall we let bygones be bygones. ![]() |

w00t! Common sense prevails again in this wacky world we live in! Truly a pleasant change of pace from everyday life. :-) Canada re-earns it's rep.
As a minor point of clarification on my part, yes, while these forums certainly provide real interaction, they are not dedicated to intra-team communications, which would provide bonding and communication among teammates. Real, dynamic, intra-team interaction is what I meant to refer to in my earlier post, and is what I am/was hoping to find in a team. Again, I uphold MyOnlineTeam as an example of doing it right. I was hoping to find a bigger team that could work along those lines. For now, I will go without it while helping the America (USA) team gain in the ranks a bit, but I'd still like to find a group that offers that sort of interaction, eventually, unless the planned website NoMad mentioned comes about. These forums are great for project-wide interaction, but don't really foster intra-team interaction quite as well... there are no team-specific places to hang out and chat for now, so one almost wonders why there are teams at all if there isn't much differentiation. A team-specific website can offer all of that and more, however, so I count that as a big plus. Otherwise, as I mentioned, it would make less sense to consider this to be a participatory project than an install-and-forget (except for the pretty(ish?) screensaver) thing. Peace out. ![]() |

Thanks for the accolade CompuDude and thanks for the great feedback Capt Crunch
---------------------------------------- btw the Chatroom is available to all, certainly 10,000 members after which we'll have to launch chatroom2. It's a bit quiet in there at the moment currently a bit hit and miss whether team members log in at the same time given that we're around the globe. At the moment the team chats via MSN and email to keep in touch. As Tony Hancock says in "The Radio Ham" I've got friends all over the world, all over the world.......Non in this country! but hey all over the world "Everyone's welcome to register and begin chatting a tad more dynamically. Hopefully this will improve relations over and above the stilted interaction we have via the boards. Also the more you chat in the chatroom the slower my PC and the quicker your team goes up through the ranks. Keep on Crunching Dave ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Dec 14, 2004 1:31:13 AM] |
