Please have a look at this work unit

Workunit Name: BETA_ faah0768_ bdb149_ mx1hhp_ dry_ 05
Device Name: ATPGRKMIK1NB022.code1.emi.philips.com
Status: Invalid
Sent Time: 09/07/2006 05:21:36
Time Due / Return Time: 09/07/2006 17:57:32
CPU Time (hours): 7.64
Claimed/ Granted BoINC Credit: 66 / 66

As you can see I get credits for work units marked to be invalid. This very often happens with non beta faah work units too.

Re: Please have a look at this work unit

Invalid status can recieve credits. Others like error, late, no report status cannot get awarded.

Invalid status is given when you finished crunching of the WU without error but the result failed to match those returned by the other host. please look at http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/validation.cfm

I'm not sure why these results didn't match. Anyone knows?

Re: Please have a look at this work unit

Perhaps an error on the host but the host did not detect the error due to overclocking or bad RAM?
Perhaps the result was corrupted during upload to the host?
Perhaps the result was corrupted by a bad write to the disk after it uploaded to the host?

Many errors can happen due to power spikes and EMI (electro-magnetic interference). If just 1 bit changes in the wrong place then the result will not validate. That is why I like to have my results and the crunch report return to the sever immediately after crunching the WU. I also like the deadline to be short so that the results are compared as soon as possible. The longer the files sit waiting the more likely they are to be corrupted.

Re: Please have a look at this work unit

ifg@work,

When I look into your invalid workunit for your machine, it is the first result ever returned by it. Also, this is the only workunit out of the 730 that have been returned to show up invalid. Can you run some system checks on your system to make sure that it is working properly.

Here is the link of useful tools. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490

Please run these on your machine and see if something is not correct.

Also, thank you for posting into the Beta forums about this so we can track down where the problem comes from.

Thanks again to all of the members of World Community Grid!
