I'm just an amateur regarding html, website design, and internet nuances, so I hope I can find some help here.
I have a personal webpage that promotes WCG (and, admittedly, my team). It includes a link to a video-clip that is available through Google. When my page is viewed with Netscape 7.1, the video opens in another window and automatically begins to play. But when I view my page with Internet Explorer 7, the same Google page opens but the video doesn't start. In fact, it is necessary to select a video on the right side of the screen -- which includes a number of different videos -- and I don't know if the WCG-related video will always be at the top on that Google page. Is there some way to fix this so that WidowsExplorer begins to play the video the same as Netscape -- or at least loads the video and just waits for a viewer to press "play"? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Bill Velek |

snipped stuff about a video clip not starting in IE7.
Works for me, on IE6. Are you speaking about the video on the upper right of the page in the sidebar titled: "Newsclip about IBM and World Community Grid"? That works just fine for me with both Netscape and IE, but that's not what I am speaking about. I was referring to the LINK in the paragraph below that, in the white background where it says: "If you are not ready yet, here is another amateur video ...". You might be correct, and it might work with IE6, but it doesn't with version 7 ... at least not on my computer. Please let me know for clarification purposes. Thanks. Bill Velek |

....the site u refer to works for me though in IE7RC1.....when u say other window...do u mean a real new window or a tab...... think u can set it to force it to open in a tab.
----------------------------------------remember the EOLAS patch.... that has impacted many a web's functioning, but is now pretty much overcome....MS even provided work around scripts. Oh, and maybe u need a few Browser Helper Objects (BHO's) or add-ons...u can view them in the Tools, Manage Add-ons menu. ciao ![]()

where it says: "If you are not ready yet, here is another amateur video ...". Yep, save the best for last. If Heather Harrison can't sell 'em you can count on Dag ![]() |

Is that you're video clip? If so, then if I can have your permission and a copy of the video file itself (if it's a .wmv file), then I can fix this to display without going to Google, and my problem is solved. As for Sekerob's post, that's way over my head right now; I'll need to digest his post when I have a bit more time. Right now I need to go to court. Thanks for any help. Bill Velek |

I have that video in 2 formats and you are welcome to both:
----------------------------------------1. the orignal AVI file, size 66.4 MB, resolution 640 X 480 2. an MPG file created from the AVI, 25.9 MB, resolution 320 X 240 The AVI is crystal clear because it's the original but fairly large as you can see. The MPG was created from the AVI but is also excellent quality. Both are much clearer than the copy on Google. I have broadband so I can send you either the AVI, the MPG or both. You can convert/compress as you wish. David Autumns was also involved in that video. I was like the script writer, star and cameraman, he was the producer and distributor. He compressed the MPG a little further and sent it to iTunes. Hmmm, I wonder if you can download it from iTunes? That would be Quicktime format. Searching there for WCG would likely find you what you want. Or you could link to it, perhaps. Dave may also have converted it to Macromedia Flash but I don't think he converted to WMD. Dave's email is in my sig, maybe see what he can do for you. Dave also has an FTP server which might make the transfer easier. The best I can do is emaill attach to you or upload to your FTP server if you have one. If Dave and iTunes can't help and you want the file(s) I have then let me know because you're most welcome to have them. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 8, 2006 4:35:54 PM] |

Regardless of your political views, political comments are not a subject for this forum. Like in most other forums, they earn more detractors than friends. Thank You

Bill, pardon my confusion but Dave and I produced that video so long ago I had forgotten which files I had. I just found the following files Dave created from the original AVI mentioned in my previous post. Again these are not WMV. And whereas the AVI and MPG files will run in Windows Media Player, these will not. They will work fine for visitors to your website if they download the required browser extension.
1. video-1.mp4: 4.2 MB, not sure of resolution but it's a bit smaller than 320 X 240 2. video-2.mp4: 3.7 MB, same picture size as above but file size is compressed, picture quality not as good 3. video-3.mv4: 17 MB, optimised for iPod, think this is what Dave uploaded to iTunes, not sure how useful it would be to you because I just don't know much about Apple The first 2 run in Quicktime and Realplayer, probably Macromedia too though I haven't tried that one. The last 1 runs in Quicktime but not Realplayer, not sure about Macromedia. |
