The quorum is still 3, but the initial replication does seem to be 4. I assume this is so that validation happens sooner, and problems can be spotted more quickly.

I've have been out for the weekend so sorry for the delay.
Will try to address points by each of posters but before: is there a "replay to thread" option? (when I click reply to this post, no newer post than clicked post is viewed in replay mode). re Didactylos: "However, switching straight over to a pure BOINC system would be a huge step backwards. It's not going to happen." Backwards? Can you exlain? I'm sure many BOINCers wonders... I have no same nor similar point of view on what is and what is not shown to participants. It keep participants in the dark - a bad one. The good part there is - people cares on what participants are thinking and writting, feedback exists. I consider this elemantary to any project. On CPDN, we have several administrators and moderators chosen from old-timers and experienced users. I think we are able to take care of forums and help participant - even over weekend and non-working UK hours as admins/mods are not only UK residents, but EU, US and other places. So, I do not agree there but respect your choice. In a results, it will never be a standard BOINC project but a limited one. re Opera - I'm always on latest version, now 9.02. JavaScripts enabled. If you want me to try any particular settings to help track down the problem and solve it, I'm ready for it. knreed, very good post, thanks. Contact Willy at BOINCStats is a good idea and putting some data manually in order to add WCG (potentially other BOINC projects in future) to AMS. Account ID will be working fine, CPID would be better choice if you are so concerned about "releasing potentionally personal information". Dagorath, thanks for expressing some points I was thinking of but in a better way (my English is not that good). This was what I ment. re Regarding the duplicate name issue. It is easy to change a username on BOINC projects, agree. It's a pain to do so on 30 of them. And it is become more complicated to do so on non-BOINC forums, like phpbb (I can do so on CPDN where I have admin right on on Czech National Team forum/web where I'm admin) and other places (BoincView, BoincStudio, Distributedcomputinginfo, BOINC.SK etc. etc). You need to repeat whole procedure again once someone picks your name before you get registered. "having 2 people with the same name posting in these forums would create unnecessary confusion." Yes. It is a known that only small percentage of participants ever post on forum, usually <10 but also <1% of participants. Right, "Hon_za" has no problem, "Honza" does. jjwhalen, right. Yet another reason why standard BOINC data from db like intitial repliaction and quorum should be visible - to avoid such confusing and guesses. |
