It still sounds like a hardware error. This allows the science application to complete normally but produce the wrong result.
Please will you post your result statuses as requested. Can you recall changing your hardware or software configuration recently? Have you run any diagnostics to check your computer is working reliably? Be aware that alpha versions of BOINC are not supported. You use them entirely at your own risk. |

That narrows the possibe causes, unless the only other project you crunch is Rosetta@Home which does not validate results. They accept anything that isn't an error. I think Didactylos's suggestion (glance up a few posts) would be helpful, please do that for us. |

Today's Golden Oldie in the collection on the 33.3 rpm table is "Thick as a Brick" by Jethro Tull....its got a crack at the very beginning so it needs to be helped along every time it's played.

With that off my chest one more:
----------------------------------------ifg@work wrote Post on: Sep 1, 2006 9:19:00 PM U did not answer the BOINC version query Well, as mentioned in my first post: I'm using BOINC Client Version 5.6.1 in the meantime. CC stands for Core Client which is the same as the BOINC Client. How to check if the Firewall is the source of the problems ? I'm using CyberArmor Personal Firewall. This is what they said at BOINC about this "CC" Bug in Boinc 5.6.1 Message 5495 - Posted 1 Sep 2006 15:28:57 UTC BOINC 5.6.1 is ALPHA. It's not a release client. It's even just been retracted by Berkeley, because it is deemed broken. ____________ Jord To check if firewall or antivir is the cause...take a risk, at your own expense of course, and switch it off for the full duration of several WU's, whilst internet disconnect or if behind router firewall.....then reconnect only internet and transmit....who knows, if its not hardware

As I found no possibility to attach a file to this post, I reformatted the output of the Result Status Page. I hope you will be able to sort out all the infos needed to identify the problem.

Something interesting I've seen on two different computers:
When looking into the Result Log File generated by the computer that is generating the invalid results (Pentium M, 1600 MHz, WinXP SP2) I see the following lines: INFO:[10:15:34] Start AutoGrid... autogrid: WARNING! While calculating an H-O or H-N bond vector... Attempt to divide by zero was just prevented. Are the coordinates of atoms 21 and 21 the same? autogrid: WARNING! While calculating an H-O or H-N bond vector... Attempt to divide by zero was just prevented. Are the coordinates of atoms 380 and 380 the same? autogrid: WARNING! While calculating an H-O or H-N bond vector... Attempt to divide by zero was just prevented. Are the coordinates of atoms 410 and 410 the same? autogrid: WARNING! While calculating an H-O or H-N bond vector... Attempt to divide by zero was just prevented. Are the coordinates of atoms 1181 and 1181 the same? Those lines are missing on the other computer (Pentium III, 1000 MHz, WinXP SP2). Those results are always valid. |

Hello ifg@work,
I have never seen a divide by 0 message in AutoGrid. I think that something is wrong with your computer. Lawrence |

Just a quick note about this so you don't have to speculate:
INFO:[10:15:34] Start AutoGrid... autogrid: WARNING! While calculating an H-O or H-N bond vector... Attempt to divide by zero was just prevented. Are the coordinates of atoms 21 and 21 the same? These are simply warnings from autogrid. They do not indicate that invalid results are being generated. Nor do they indicate that anything is wrong with the computer. These warnings simply indicate that the input to autogrid caused it to calculate the distance from an atom to itself. Since that distance is zero, autogrid wrote the warning and did not subsequently divide by that distance. (Division by zero = bad). Thank you all for your participation in the project. We literally couldn't do it without you! Lindy Lindstrom |
