cool Re: optimization: Flash-sticks and RAM and even 5ns RAM Drives

Not sure what you mean by having your posts deleted, unless you try to post when you are not signed in. However, SEARCH will not find many of your posts. There is something wrong with the Forum SEARCH function. For example, SEARCH for UNiRAC finds 2 posts, but reading the post I see 8 posts listed under that name. Your recent post under the name of unirac lists 2 posts, neither of which SEARCH finds. This is an example of the sorts of bugs to be expected in a new system, which I hope will be corrected before they irritate a lot of newcomers. Incidentally, you can find mention of Folding@home in the documents describing this project. The projects are complementary, not competitive.

Re: optimization: Flash-sticks and RAM and even 5ns RAM Drives

Unirac --

Lawrence pointed to a problem I noted in another thread. When you log in to the World Community Grid, the logon processor is not sensitive to upper or lower case characters in the user name. Then, when you come in to the forum pages, the system is sensitive to them and each way you have specified your userid will maintain its own counter for number of posts. This is why he found 8 posts for UNIRAC while the number of posts listed for you as unirac shows 2. The search problem I was not aware about, but it only makes it more difficult to find your posts.

A second possibility that occurs to me is that you might have tried to make a long post and run into a bulletin board timeout. You can avoid this by composing on Wordpad / Word and doing a cut and paste. This problem catches people on all bulletin boards. You might want to discuss cheap multi-processor systems with CPUs on blades using an on-blade flash memory chip to serve as a replacement for an expensive hard drive to reduce bus contention. Naturally using Linux to eliminate the expense of a multi-processor Windows license. This sort of thing will probably become very popular once more applications are developed for Linux.
