Member Tip SR 03-06: Taskmanager Memory Usage Readings

For those who are interested in highs & lows and the true maxima of memory usage, real and virtual, here a tip for all not yet in the know. No need for going out onto the internet and fetch a new widget, extension, utility or gizmo....... It's all-in that often mentioned TaskManager gateway where obstinate Work Units can be killed off. Also, if not in the know, u can get at it thru right click on the Win-d-ohZ Start Bar or Ctrl-Alt-Del....a screenshot below. What to do to get the memory usage info.....

A. Go to the View menu and take the Select Columns view and tick the fields you are in need to see.
B. 1st select the Utilised Memory, that is currently, in real time being used by a process. (it's by default already there)
C. 2nd select the Maximum Used Memory...which keeps track of exactly that for each process. As u can see the HDC job after 1.2 CPU hours had 647.5 mb maximum ram use (3rd line from bottom).
D. 3rd add Virtual Memory or Page Memory (a default column)... showing part of the process, that is written to harddisk. Here showing the real time value, which is 75mb at the snapshot time.

Not shown here, as hidden under the drop down box is the Performance Tab, where u can see a graph of the maximum usage of Virtual/Page/Swapfile(s) memory and CPU(s) utilisation.

Surely those with calculus have already figured out, that here 722mb is being used by a HDC process at that point in time. The ram/virtual memory distribution can move i.e. 75mb can sit in ram and 647mb in virtual. The possible spread in which HDC moves is thus almost 1.5 gb (2x 722mb, where 710mb Ram, simultaneous with 286mb Ram...1gb total use was observed at one time for a HDC).

ciao

N.B. CPU time for interestees is a build from 5 days up time, should u wonder about some hi numbers....view was sorted on this column. The columns can be re-ordered by dragging them left or right for personal preference.

PLEASE STAY STRICTLY ON-TOPIC.... IF U WISH TO ADD MEMORY USAGE POSTING COMMENTS, IT COULD BE INCORPORATED AS CLARIFICATION TO THE ORIGINAL TIP........WE CRUNCHERS DO THIS TO HELP EACH OTHER! angel
