good for Stanford!!!now they are thinking ahead.
i had the same idea right when WCG came out and felt it would be a waste of writing since i felt it would be rediculed. And wouldn't u know, some brave soul did write a post with the same ideas as me. And u know what, it was critisized...
i wonder how much critisizm IBM got before they started supporting WCG...?

Well now that Stanford has taken the lead and Sony seems willing. its time for WCG to hop on the bandwagon and get Code written for the PS3

You did? That was foresighted of you! I didn't know the PS3 was announced in 2004*.

As for the multitude of people who wanted WCG to use the PS2 or XBox: the idea's not original, and it simply won't work. Sorry.

* Oh, wait... wasn't it announced in 2005? Maybe you were thinking of some other console.

well of couse i was thinkign of the PS2 and XBOX becuase there was nothing else out yet. but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure more powerful systems would be comming out after.

Some of the first press releases came from sony. Nov. 29, 2004
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press_Archive/200411/04-1129E/

And the Specs were released on Feb. 2005
http://www.sony-asia.com/corporate/news/corporate/2005/feb/7.htm

from the press release u can tell the cip is ment for multimedia type tasks. like those in a game console!

Hello sicembears,
If TSRI ports AutoDock to the PS3 and BOINC comes out with a PS3 client - gosh, just not going to happen in the near future. Think of all the programmer man-years that would take.

Re: Sony ps3 joins the grid with its cell cpu, must read.!!!1

I was thinking about this lately. Actually it is too bad that we don't get the PS3 on WCG. Especially since IBM was involved in developing the cell processor. It would be even better for IBM to be able to say, here, WE have developed a processor and are able to put it onto our OWN grid. So everyone can see how this processor accelerates the work compared to standard CPU's. cool

Obviously I understand that there are lots of different projects here now and in the future, so it's very difficult to write a client for a processor, but that just popped up in my mind. silly wink
