hey,
----------------------------------------since several days i have crunched some FAAH-units that every time they get at around 50% they fall back a few %'s like 47.9% or something like that i first thought this was a prob with my laptop, but now it's already the third WU that gets stuck at 50% en rewind itselfs a few %'s. i think (but i'm not sure anymore) that they completed (they really did) after I rebooted my system, could be from something else too... so i'm running the UD-client (FAAH v4.0.3.6) currently crunching "ud_8401401_0.dir" all the projects are selected Windows XP Pro Intel(R) Pentium(R) M 1.73GHz 504MB hard disk: 55.8GB greets, workel [Edit 2 times, last edit by workel at Aug 26, 2006 4:15:10 PM] |

The Dutch always have these orrible jokes about the belga's.....well do a search for posts that have the number 66.66 in it.....you will hit on the explanation and the instruction to let it run since the 50% and retreat to about 47.7 and back up is the program seeking a convergence point, before it continues with the next segment which is either ending at 75% or 100%.

What Sekerob is trying to say is, this is normal.
Try not to reboot, because when a work unit is at one of these points in the computation, you may lose more work than normal. This is because there is an unusually big gap between checkpoints. |

I am currently crunching a wu with the same # - 8401401. It is exhibiting the same behavior. This is one of the wu's with only one checkpont at 50%. It currently has about 5 hours of cpu time and about 7.5 hours of clock time. I expect it will not get past the checkpoint for quite some time, I'm guessing another 3-4 hours at least (pure speculation). Patience is the key, just let it do its thing and it will eventually get there.

Sgt.Joe et al. UD_8401401_0.dir is just a representation of the version number of FAAH synonymous to science software version 4.0.3.6 (u can see that number right hand top in the graphics screen of UD agent). Everyone should be using this version....in fact each time a new version comes out, it is automatically downloaded, the next time a new Work Unit is retrieved. The Work Units itself don't have a visible number in UD Agent. In BOINC u can see exactly which work unit one is working on like: 06-08-26 19:00:04|World Community Grid|Resuming task B00601_0036_CTMA3A1-12-10-16-c1_0 using hdc version 505

Sekerob,
----------------------------------------Thank you, I did not know that. Is there any way to know in ud what the wu identifier is?? Joe ps. It has now finally passed 50% checkpoint.

I faced a similar problem too. The task gets stuck near 50% for a long time.
In addition, if I were to reboot my laptop, the task returns to 0%. Is it executing a new task or still on the same one then? Regards, SH |

sionghoe,
It starts again at the beginning of the same task. The reason why it starts again has been explained in this thread as well as several other threads. |

I have the same problem. I try to let the ud make its job, but I only waste my time (or the cpu time) cause the ud loop between 47,xx to 50 many time and for 2 hours, but nothing appen.
I think there's now a little bug and ud is unable to find the correct checkpoint. |
