Looks like BOINC is picking up speed on WCG

http://www.boincstats.com/stats/project_graph.php?pr=wcg

Since 2 weeks, there has been a significant increase of daily points. We've been around 850.000 points per day for a very long time, but since that time there has been a significant increase. Now every day we are around 1.100.000 points. And it looks like it is going to rise even sooner.

Just curious, have there been some large teams/companies added lately which all use BOINC? Anyone some "inside information" where these nice scores come from?

Further, with an average score of 32.000.000 total, BOINC is gaining on the UD-client.
1.100.000 x 7 = 7.700.000 points. That's 24% of the total score! cool

Re: Looks like BOINC is picking up speed on WCG

Hi depriens

there are now 6952 more of us than there was at the start of August that should make a difference and the peak of the holiday season in the northern hemisphere is probably now sadly crying over just watch the pick up mid September and October as the colleges and uni's re-open

(sorry folks about the reminder if you are having fun in the sun at the moment whistling)

No team is really making waves just the regular steady dedicated plod from us all - that's making the difference peace

Re: Looks like BOINC is picking up speed on WCG

Getting team mates to switch to Boinc has not been easy sad

On this team, out of 279 active crunchers, only 42 are running Boinc. Of course, among the 42 are most of our big number crunchers. biggrin

I am wondering if Boinc may be somewhat intimidating. wink

Another contribution to the increase is that there has been some upheaval over at Rosetta recently, and some teams/members have elected to leave and crunch over here - some of these are heavy crunchers.

Edit: The rumour that I have been over there recruiting disaffected members is pure gossip tongue

Also WCG seems to be over coming some of the barriers that users used to see about this project

Re: Looks like BOINC is picking up speed on WCG

The interesting part in that last days number of >1,444,000 credit is, that it translates to 10.1 million WCG points....overall yesterday WCG did 34,3 million.....thus BOINC contributes 29,5 percent.....thats almost double of the number mentioned 4 months ago where was said that 15% was demanding 85% of support.

Also, there its claimed that 13.3 Tflops were crunched on average by those on BOINC.....the principle of 100,000 credits being 1 Teraflop. How that 13.3Tflops can be translated to a overall WCG number is another science project discussed elsewhere.

good going anyways

peace

Re: Looks like BOINC is picking up speed on WCG

RCTCGrid has been moving our systems to the BOINC client. You can see the dip in our stats around the end of August when we started the move. We have about 50% of our systems moved over ATM.
We have gone from 2 years a day to almost 3 years a day. Besides the speed increase the client is much easier to install and more transparent to the users.
If you have not tried using it, give it a try its worth it. biggrin
Keep Crunching

Wow, that sounds like a really interesting machinepark. How many systems are you running?
