Noticed that if I 'exit' BIONC it does not save its current crunching data before exiting.
People can and do have to shutdown systems from time to time. So my suggestion is that if one manually 'exits' the BIONC program then it should save all its data before exiting - and so just start where it left off on re-launch. Would say the same for a situation in which the user shuts-down or restarts the system from Windows itself (i.e. not doing a manual exit but having the system shut BIONC down); BIONC should auto-save all data. |

MeToo,
----------------------------------------Plz do some read-up in other threads on the "Checkpoint"/"Segment"/"Chunk" saving. BOINC/UD Agent will return to the beginning of last segment started. It cannot return to a point in the middle of a complicated calculation. To save your work, read the extensive instruction by DavidHobbs on "Hibernation". ciao

Yes,
I've been using the hibernation method (including the improvement suggested by Didactylos) daily on 15 machines for over three weeks so have been able to assess the results. These devices are all working on FAAH. Since using the hibernation technique my run-time statistics show up as a virtually level line, varying between about 150 and 180 hours daily. (I have 3 devices running continuously and 15 running 7 hours per day). Before implementing hibernation mode (just shutting down instead) my run-time statistics varied between 50 and 350 hours from day to day. This is a reflection of the work lost when the PC is powered off at a "bad" time in the crunch process, and the chance that many or few devices will return a result on a given date. I haven't had any problems with running in this way and I can see a distinct improvement in points generated (and actual useful work done for WCG). David. |
