I have cancer on 2 machines right now
----------------------------------------one machine has no graphics in the 2 'mask' squares, and no red square in the main photo image either. it is at 13% and seems to be progressing normally at 1 hour 20 minutes. the other machine does show a moving red square on the image and also has moving graphics in filter and distance mask squares. these graphics move maybe every 30 seconds. 7% complete after 40 minutes, also seems to be progressing. both CPU's are showing 99%. is there a problem with the first one? HDC has had very few problems. Assume it's going normally, but keep an eye on it.
By the way, I think you mentioned you would be prepared to translate some of WCGwiki.org into Spanish? I would like to take you up on that, if I may. |

screenshot of no graphics, now 15.7% complete. also, there are no moving dots after the words "IDENTIFYING CLUSTERS" that would indicate it is identifying anything:

compare this second one, with graphics, now 19.9% complete. i also note this one does not say 'IDENTIFYING CLUSTERS', while the one above does.
----------------------------------------(i saw 'identifying clusters" on this one briefly, with moving dots after the words, after exiting WCG and restarting it - then the words and dots go away when the graphics are back on - i presume this is the normal starting or restarting process): [Edit 14 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 9, 2006 10:07:34 AM] |

let me just say one thing to the techs, i don't really care about graphics
----------------------------------------if i knew the problem was being solved, by just seeing a progress bar, i would be quite happy even with no graphics whatever. obviously to me, the only issue is "is the work unit being processed"? however i am under the impression, from HPF-2 problems, that if there are no graphics then there is no real work being processed either. When HDC starts up, it goes through a number of steps.
The UD graphics shows dots being added after the step title on screen (such as 'Identifying clusters. . .'). This reassures you that it is working, not stuck. Eventually it starts running the filters, and changes the pictures on screen. The progress bar increments at intervals. |

When HDC starts up, it goes through a number of steps. yes i see what you mean. however, in the first example above there is no apparent identification going on (no moving dots), and no graphics ever, evenThe UD graphics shows dots being added after the step title on screen (such as 'Identifying clusters. . .'). This reassures you that it is working, not stuck. Eventually it starts running the filters, and changes the pictures on screen. The progress bar increments at intervals. when the work unit was 15% complete already. it is now 54% complete after 3 hours 37 minutes, same message, same lack of graphics. UPDATE!!
----------------------------------------i restarted my computer and the graphics are now showing, and at 70% completion. i did not think to restart WCG first to see if that alone would do it. however this might be of interest anyway for the future yes? clearly as shown above, the graphics were not there til i restarted i am assuming the work was done and done properly in spite of the lack of moving graphics, as opposed to HPF-2 where no graphics seemed to mean no work progress. Off the top of my head, it sounds like the graphics code got into a strange state. A quick way to test this is to go to another screen on the UD agent and then switch back to the graphics screen. The graphics DLL is loaded only when the graphics are being displayed and is unloaded when not. Thus, each time you switch from any non-graphic UD panel to the graphics panel, the graphics reinitialize themselves.
----------------------------------------It does sound like the WU was progressing normally but there is perhaps a bug in the graphics initialization code. While bugs in the graphics code have no effect on the WU, bugs in the app that generate data for the graphics could indicate a problem, but I don't think that's the case. I'll take a look at it. For future reference, when you report a problem like this, could you please provide your device ID so we can track down the WU in case we need to try and replicate it. Thanks,

Halfcard, as was previously explained by Rick, there is this bar green, blue, green, blue, that changes colour as it progresses.....atop the percent indicator pretty good to me (looks like u use some transparent resolutioin that may obscure that). By coincidence the 4 blocks represent the present 4 segmented HDC's. Also explained was that the segment count will change and then expressed hope that the green, blue, green, blue would be amended accordingly....more ways lead to rome ;>)
----------------------------------------Read at Rosetta, that the graphics themselves cause problems in the completion, so who knows why HPF2 is failing!!!!! From their boards: The new version soon to appear on ralph will also have a fix Rom put in for graphics problems; as reported on the boards, a good fraction of the errors seem to be associated with the graphics (I suspect the fact that they consume lots of memory is part of the problem), and in the new versions graphics related errors should abort the graphics but not disrupt completion of the Rosetta calculation.
