When I installed the BOINC manager, nothing was said about WCG agent and BOINC running at the same time. Should I stop the WCG manager from loading, or am I now working on three work units, two with BOINC and one with the WCG agent. It seems as though all three are running, ~30% CPU load to each. Can this cause a problem?

Yes, you are working on 3 units, assuming your CPU is dual core and you're using both cores in BOINC. It won't cause a major problem (eg. crash/hang, data loss) but it may use slow your system down appreciably if it runs out of RAM and needs lots of virtual memory. There is no performance gain from running BOINC and UD simultaneaously, uninstall UD.

I ran both for a while, when I first installed BOINC, until I was sure I liked BOINC. I found I did like it, despite lack of WCG graphics, and now I crunch other projects too.
----------------------------------------I have actually never uninstalled the UD client. I used the program UDMON to stop it downloading new work and then when the last WU completed, I just deleted the shortcut from the Windows Startup group. It then does not run or load anything at all. This way I could go back to UD client if I wanted to. It has been over a year now, so I think it is time to uninstall! |
