sad WCG has taken over my Laptop

I joined WCG yesterday and I now find that I cannot shut it off. It is running all the time and using up to 100% of my CPU. Even when I re boot it just fires up again. I thought it was only supposed to run when the screen saver kicked in.
Q. How do I make it run only when the screen saver is active?
Q. Alternatively, how can I uninstall WCG. It does not seem to have an Uninstall function.
Pleasehelp. I'm desperate as I can't do my real work.

at top left corner is Help :
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewHelp.do

to run only as screen saver you must go to :
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=screensav

How do I run in screen saver mode only?
NOTE: This FAQ is for the UD agent only.

1. Open the UD Grid agent.
2. Select the Preferences button
3. Click on the checkbox by the text "Run only as screen saver"
4. Press the "apply" button.

to delete the UD agent software :
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=install#99

How do I uninstall the World Community Grid Software?
Minimize the agent window. Then right click on its icon in the lower right and select "Exit". This will stop the agent. Then you should be able to use Add/Remove programs in the control panel to remove it. If that does not work, use the task manager to stop the processes called UD... and WCGrid_... Then you should be able to delete the C:\Program Files\WorldCommunityGrid directory and its contents. After that remove the corresponding start menu items.

Re: WCG has taken over my Laptop

Hi brumney,
I will add some information. Right-click on the WCG icon in the Systray lets you select Exit. And, once you have selected 'Run only as a screensaver' on the website you have to force your laptop to communicate with the server. This can be done by double-clicking on the WCG icon to bring it up on screen, then minimizing it, then bring it up again and look at Preferences to make sure that it has updated from the website.

Re: WCG has taken over my Laptop

Lawrence, you're confusing the poor guy. The screensaver option isn't on the website, it's only on the agent. Simply check the box, and it will take effect immediately.

brumney, you should be able to use your computer normally while WCG is running. The agent doesn't use all your CPU, it only uses the spare that is left over from your normal work. Please let us know immediately if you are experiencing a real degradation of your computing use.

You don't need to stop the agent to uninstall it. Simply go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it. All your Windows programs should be uninstalled in this way. Programs that put uninstall links in other places are breaking the Microsoft guidelines.
