Laptop: Run with Battery

I joined last night and I am fascinated by this community and the grid in general. First I wanna say excellent work by everyone. Now I will get to the point:

It took me about 5 hours to figure out that the Agent pauses to "conserve energy" because my laptop was not plugged in. I was sorta discouraged that it didn't just tell me that it was because my laptop was running on my battery... But now that I know this I was wondering:

Is it possible to allow the Agent to run even when my laptop is running on batter power?

In my case I would actually perfer that it runs in battery mode. Normally I just let my laptop charge overnight, during the day I move all over my house and other sites. Hopefully there is a setting I can change.

Thanks in advance,
Joe P

Hello BogoJoker,
Yes, but you understand all the reasons against this.

If you must, then this option is offered to BOINC users in their BOINC profile.

For our UD client, this option is available using UD Tweaker: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1663#9295

Re: Laptop: Run with Battery

remember that intel laptops had a piece of software called Speedstep. Dont know if that allows control as-if to tell your cpu to broadcast its not on energy saving mode.

Re: Laptop: Run with Battery

There's nothing like crunching Work Unit's on the train.

My laptop with speed step just lasts the 1:45min Journey into London. Charged back up at work and then crunches all the way home.

As Lawrence says BOINC is the answer you are looking for

Just select yes in the answer to this question in your device profile

"Do work while computer is running on batteries?"

Glad to have you onboard

Dave
