I downloaded the tool that allows you to set how much CPU you want the United Devices program to use and i set it to 100% on both computers but it still never goes above 60%. I've even tried restarting the pc's. What can I do?

Here are a few other concerns from somebody else that was having the same problem. Perhaps this will help.

Youssef, probably in your particular case creating a system environment variable "Wcgrid_Max_CPU" (not capital sensitive) and setting it to the desired percent will work. You can chose to set it in the System Control Panel, Advanced Tab, System Variables button down left below. U can chose User level or System level. Used this long before the Throttle tool came out and have it set at 95%.
----------------------------------------There are official instructions....just search for that bolder word. ![]()

Check you have the required permissions to modify the registry. You may need to log on as Administrator.
You can also check that the program created the registry key correctly. It is Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IBM\World Community Grid DWORD Value: 'CPU Throttle' Value: anywhere from 25 - 100. If you are logged on as Administrator, you will need to create the key in the Users hive, once for each user. Alternatively, set the environment variable Wcgrid_Max_CPU. |

I went into the registry on both computers and it was set to 64, so I set it to 100. It still doesn't go above 60%. Although now one of the computers is running the Help Defear Cancer program instead, and it says CPU Throttle 100% after I changed it in the registry. But it's not. |

I'm thinking this has to do with Hyper Threading. The two computers that aren't going above 60 are Northwoods with HT and the one that's doing 100% is an A64 3000+. So these programs just aren't made to utilize more than one CPU, so on the Pentium 4 computers, they are using just one of the "two" processors. What do you guys think?

On the outside chance.....maybe an event of dual core.....but that should/could report 50%....stumped, but to be sure the system variable needs to be set in the Systems Variable section, not the User variable section.
----------------------------------------You have to boot to let it take effect....maybe ![]() PS i run the enigmatic HT version of a P4!

Hello Youssef Abdelaal ,
----------------------------------------There are 2 places where the throttle variable is set. According to Rick Alther ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=7712#62035 ) the registry value has priority over the environment value. ' WCGridMaxCPU.exe -t 100' should set both values to 100%. Lawrence [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 26, 2006 2:40:47 PM] |
