Re: Loosing Task Execution Progress - FAAH

The use of Hibernation solution is too tedious if the time of turning off the PC is different from time to time. I have used the small program 'slawdog' to solve this problem -

http://slawdog.com/products/smartsd/index.aspx

(a) Guesstimate the amount of time required for the next check point

(b) Set the time required in the Slawdog and let the PC shuts itself down automatically.

But be caution that the Slawdog program may not work on all PCs, try it out first to see if it can really shutdown the PC automatically.

Lastly, I recall that in the past HPF WUs do not have this problem and only a few % of work is lost and wonder if the FAAH can also be programmed simailarly to have all set to Type 5 behaviour.

Re: Loosing Task Execution Progress - FAAH

Recently I got a Type 4 WU. Whilst it had been worked through 90%, I update my PC on various programs and re-start the PC. This caused a loss of 12 hours of computing which is quite frustrating. I gradually remove all UD Agents from my PCs to save all these troubles.

Re: Loosing Task Execution Progress - FAAH

I'm/We're sorry it came to this Vidocq. The latest FAAH batches have segments <=5%. By following the Red line, restart Green line indication, stopping it causes very little frustration thru lost time......but really, the scientists do not or CANNOT design the calculations to take account of part time machines......i'm sure they are though very cognizant......the smaller the segment that can be saved, the higher the efficiency and production on the grid AND gratifying the member experience.

BTW your choice of name intrigues.....any relation to Eugène François Vidocq
