Re: How to choose what PC gets what work units?

Hello we45dfa35gh3476,
My Results Status page shows that we are only running 3 copies of each work unit. Yesterday we ran 20,000+ results in 9 and 2/3 CPU years. By contrast, we ran 120 CPU years of FAAH. I suggest that if you want to run only HDC, you nevertheless check the 'If there is no work available' box in My Projects, because there are very few HDC units available for the number of CPUs ready to run them. We have very fast turn-around time for HDC units.

Re: How to choose what PC gets what work units?

Well Sir, i've had the 'alternate' option on, and received 3 days worth of FAAH, my fall-back project on BOINC....it gave the response:
2006-08-30 22:48:58 [World Community Grid] Message from server: No work can be sent for the projects you have selected
2006-08-30 22:48:58 [World Community Grid] Message from server: No work is available for Help Defeat Cancer
2006-08-30 22:48:58 [World Community Grid] Message from server: You have selected to receive work from other projects if no work is available for the projects you selected

It had crunched thru all in the work buffer and was giving me only HDC's piece-meal.....not in batches of 10 (which the machine can do per day), not 6, just 2 at the time, just before that.

20,000 is with alot of past work buffered out in the field and we have dipped at times to 15,000 daily....unfortunately the 'by-project' stats don't provide the daily production list like the global stats do. But from the event above on August 30, I'd expect for some dip to appear this or next week.

Added: one of the WCG techs explained that 20% of available work goes to BOINC (with work buffer), where i suspect the fast machine to be, who have only 1 week deadline, whereas 80% goes to UD agent, who have 3 weeks of deadline......we cant see their turnaround time, but converse to BOINC, expect a lot of part-time machines there.

ciao
