smile Re: Unattended machine appears to fail workunits -- no messages

Hi Lawrence --

It is very puzzling -- especially so since that system did report completed work units on 26 and 27 November. The two were pretty trivial, though, because they each completed with about 7 hours of CPU time on an 800 MHz Pentium III. I do plan on looking in on the progress every now and then as it works on this work unit. I hope that it has decided to work again. It isn't a super computer, but it can contribute to the effort. By the way, since it is on a wireless network, it uses the same router as my primary system which has been happily crunching since 17 November with the only failures being the work units that wouldn't converge that gave everyone such a problem a week and a half ago.

angry Re: Unattended machine appears to fail workunits -- no messages

Well, I give up! I last looked at my other system about 13 hours ago and it was grinding away and showed 6% completion with just over 5 CPU hours clocked. When I looked at it a moment ago, it was showing 7% completion with about 8 CPU hours clocked. The points on the local agent are as reported on the statistics page (minus the ANNOYING rounding difference). Looking at this, I can only conclude that it abandoned the work unit that started about 18 hours ago after 10 hours of processing, connected, grabbed a new work unit and updated the local Agent statistics from the server. Since there are no messages from this (and no log if there was a message that has subsequently gone away), I cannot pinpoint a cause for the problem. So -- WCG is going to be removed from that system and it will be turned off to save the wasted electricity.
