Re: Inconclusive result - now re-sent 5 times....

I suspect the 13th and 14th results are being sent out before validation is attempted on the 12 returned results. We have seen this inconsistency before.

So, as soon as the validator runs on the 12 returned results, all of them are marked "Other".

Looks like a flaw in BOINC. I suspect this isn't a condition that gets a lot of testing, since it's so rare.

Re: Inconclusive result - now re-sent 5 times....

Probably a few rules should be injected into the sending scripts for critical points like this 12 or 6 inconclusives. It's positively not the fault of BOINC client, lets qualify that, its the BOINC server @ WCG which is the one controlling. I.m.h.o. its better to be on standby for a few minutes whilst validation is attempted, then having someone's PC waste 8 / 10 / 24 hours on a (none)crunchable WU for the special circumstances we have now witnessed many times. BUT, since BOINC client has a queue, this premature sending is a complete waste. Default contact is 2.4 hours, so most all have at least 1 WU in cache or so much crunching left on their current WU.

I red in the "Known Issues" forum that the techs could use some input about those workunits that seem to be a bit off. Here's one for you:

Sorry guys my bad about the 12 - I spoke from memory rather then double checking the settings. It is set to stop at 14.

We are investigating the numerous invalids - this is not normal and we intend to resolve it once we find the cause.

Re: Inconclusive result - now re-sent 5 times....

Is the forum the proper place to post these inconclusive results or do you want me, and others, to email WCG directly? I have a couple. If the forums are the place to post these, maybe start a thread here in HPF2 titled "Post Inconclusive Results Here" or something like that. Just a thought.

Re: Inconclusive result - now re-sent 5 times....

We're not interested in Inconclusive results. All Inconclusive means is that the work unit hasn't validated successfully - when the work unit is completed, Inconclusive results will change to Invalid or Valid or (in very very rare cases) Other.

Please feel free to post about your errors or any unusual work units here.

Re: Inconclusive result - now re-sent 5 times....

raised eyebrow Surely we're to a certain extend interested in 'inconclusive' are we not? Thus, i'd say.....

.....We're fully aware of the extraordinary high 'inconclusive' rate and are diligently working to reduce them to the minimum!
