Re: The SIMPLEST method for 'throttling' BOINC

Bear in mind that grid.org are busy recrunching work units from HPF1, a project which is completely finished. WCG don't condone that sort of thing, and while normally you will be awarded plenty of points, if there is no work for your computer you won't get any.

I am not sure I have understood this: are you telling me that UD is using my computer to REcrunching work that worth NOTHING???

This is a very serious accusation.

Im my UD.org profile I have selected 2 projects: UD Cancer Research Phase II and Human Proteome Folding Project; wich one is the finished one? both? Am I cruching for nothing?????

Julio

PS Sekerob, I want to answer you but please teach me how I can paste a screen-copy in the forum. as you did in your last post

Re: The SIMPLEST method for 'throttling' BOINC

If you are crunching Human Proteome Folding for grid.org then you are crunching for nothing. Apparently they are recycling work units that have already been crunched. Not sure about their cancer project.

If you are crunching for WCG then you are crunching new work units and are performing a valuable service. If you have signed up for HPF1 at WCG you will not be getting units for that project, it's finished. If you are signed up for Help Defeat Cancer (HDC) then you will get work for that (if you meet the minimum system requirements). You might also consider signing up for WCG's Fight Aids at Home (FAAH) project, it has work too and the system requirements are lower than for HDC.

Re: The SIMPLEST method for 'throttling' BOINC

I quote "Robby Brewer" from grid.org:
Rosetta - This project is apparently complete. Since I do not know if we will be doing any other Rosetta projects, I am going to leave this running until I hear something official. This means currently any Rosetta work is for points only. The actual work will be ignored. If I turn the job off, I am sure that many machines will get the flashing explanation point and cause an uproar. Active members who read the boards can make a decision whether they want to set their profile to the cancer job only or not. Maybe some members think the Rosetta screensaver is cool.

I can assure you they won't be getting any Rosetta project any time soon, since HPF Phase 2 is running exclusively on World Community Grid.

When HPF1 finished, WCG experienced very few problems with people not being able to get work. There was no decline in the total work done, and we've been happily crunching ever since.

I fear grid.org have a reputation for recycling work. I have never volunteered there myself, but there are a large number of ex-grid.org members here who have told me all about it.
