![]() A big part of this project that I love is the communication component. that it is the community participating in my work and that some of you then want to know about what we are doing ... i.e. want to know about the research [to those of you who crunch for crunchings sake ... strong love as well] but I-heart the idea that I can do a little bit more to explain myself to the people who are helping me get this part of my life's work done before I turn 100. While HPF2 is still young please ask me questions about the bits of the content that are still too jargon filled or technical. Also ask me to explain the parts of the content that are too devoid of detail ... I can still wotk with the IBMrs or on my own website to get these additional descriptions, details and justifications out to you-the-crunchers... but I need feedback to help figure out the level of detail desired. People that are interested in hearing more about Rosetta should be aware that Rosetta@home ( http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ ) has a lot of information in the Science FAQ and Research Overview and News Articles.

I think most explanations are pretty clear to most of the public. I'm only missing some words because English is not my native language, but when I read the text a few times, everything is perfectly clear.
----------------------------------------The only thing I can think of is to increase the number of updates. For example, in the last phase of HPF1 we didn't get a lot of updates, so some members were note sure what exactly was going on at the moment. Now we have a new project, so it's good to give us an update about once a month. Of course I don't expect pages of text, just a small message like the above would do. It's just that everyone knows that the project is still alive. And in the meantime they can see the project status. I understand that you're very busy with lots of other things, so I guess this isn't top-priority. ![]() ![]() |

Maybe rather than giving us a weekly recital IN THE FORUM of new partners in the member news, with multiple projects going, and more coming, a single member news project summary page of all with status and notes like:
----------------------------------------Week 26-2006 Project Summary: 1. HPF1....finished June 22. See so and so announcement for 2. HPF2....started June 23, X% completed and continuing. See so and so announcement 3. FAAH....X% completed etc..... Put links at each project to important messages. These updates have to be in the fora and not be hidden in the regular WCG pages. All else it pretty clear, but for the non technical sometimes a bit hard to understand.....just look at the 60% throttle discussion surrounding the HPF2 startup.....clear as a bell to me but..... thanks for taking the effort to keep us informed.....that's what attracts new crunchers and keeps the current. ![]()

I'm sorry if this is elsewhere, or I am just being thick - so please folks don't beat me up over this
![]() Can some explain to me in plain english exactly what the HPF2 project is actually targeting? I see in the About Project section it states "While still in its early design phases, HPF2 will likely focus on Plasmodium, the pathogenic agent that causes malaria" - does this mean at this time Cancer is not part of this project? The reason why I ask, is that some members at WCG are questioning whether to stay here for this project, or move over to Folding@Home where research is specifically targeting Cancer/Alzheimer's/Huntington's/Parkinson's etc. I would like to be able to give them some answers on this one. ![]() |

The next project is all about cancer, and nothing else.
It will launch very soon now. Hang around a month or two and see :-) HPF2 is starting with malaria. Where is goes in later phases is still unknown. Just one word of caution, though: don't imagine that Folding@Home is working directly on the diseases you mention. Like HPF (1 and 2), they are doing research that may have all sorts of benefits and applications. |

![]() I just need to pass on some answers to concerns raised by the troops as battling cancer is very close to many members hearts. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere - your stuck with me now, and thats that..... |

The description in the WCG agent for HPF2 to states that in addition to malaria, it will compute "recently identified cancer bio-markers"
