Sorry to throw a kink in to the "good faith" of IBM and the World computing grid, but the results that are gathered from this goes to the Department of Defense. I agree that there should be a governing arm of research to oversee the results of this, but is there a possibility that the DoD would keep results secret for the purposes of military gain? I would prefer that an organization such as the CDC be involved jointly with the DoD in order to make sure results are used for public consumption and not kept from the public. I think I may unplug.... |

What makes you think that the results go to the DOD? If you review the information in the Projects Showcase, you will see that the Human Proteome Folding Project is being done for the Institute for Systems Biology which has affiliations with several universities and organizations not only in the United States, but internationally as well. You are way off the mark on this.

Good sir,
You are confusing this project with the smallpox grid project that grid.org is working on. Unless, "the Institute for Systems Biology...an internationally renowned non-profit research institute" is somehow slang for "DoD" I'm not really sure how you would make that connection. Matt |

Thanks Dave and Matt!
