confused UD Agent problem in XP ltd accounts

I decided to switch to Fightaids@home and followed the instructions.

Untill today I had been using The United Devices Cancer Research Project on my XP system in all accounts Ltd and Administrator (grid.org).

However now I can only run the UD Agent in my Administrator account.

It does not load in any of my limited accounts neither does it show up among "All Programs" in my limited accounts.

How do I correct this issue and make the UD Agent auto load along with my antivirus, firewall etc, etc in all user accounts on my XP home computer?

Re: UD Agent problem in XP ltd accounts

Copy the shortcut to Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

It will then start automatically when anyone logs on.

Re: UD Agent problem in XP ltd accounts

Hello,

I've installed the agent on several computers that have a public acces, hence a limited user account.

I did set the shortcut in the startup folder, and the agent loads at startup.

Though, the agent pauses, and never restarts.
If I do restart it, it just pauses again.

I tried to search in the documentation, but didn't find anything helpfull (I tried opening the program in the performances options as found in the documentation, for winxp, but that didn't help).

Anyone has an idea?

Re: UD Agent problem in XP ltd accounts

pheew, sorry AnagraM, you're the umpteened on the subject......the pausing may indicate that your machine does not meet minimum spec. On the initial contact of the agent, there is a small exchange between UD Agent and the WCG servers of about 3.3k.....you'd see a message like receiving 3363 of 3363 bytes.....this is the handshaking bit where, my best guess, the specs are being exchanged, credentials verified.

See the minimum spec pages essentially CPU >=550mhz and 256mb of real RAM plus your Paging/Swapfile function must be enabled (you can set / check that in the Systems Control panel, performance section).

Errata: Above specs are for FAAH and HPF2. Future projects like cancer might require less (or more even), depending on how demanding they are in crunch power

Re: UD Agent problem in XP ltd accounts

In addition to what Sekerob said about the requirement for 256Meg RAM, one should also remember that computers with video chips on the mainboard usually allocate part of the system RAM for video. So you might have 256Meg RAM but when the portion allocated to video is deducted you MIGHT not have enough to meet UD's minimum RAM requirement. I say MIGHT not because I'm not sure if UD sees the system RAM or the system RAM minus allocation to video. Can anyone clarify that?

Re: UD Agent problem in XP ltd accounts

It sees the available memory.

This is what is reported in System Properties (right-click My Computer, click Properties) and is indeed installed RAM minus shared video RAM.
