I noticed that WCGrid_AutoDoc was using 50% of the CPU in task manager, even when I had other apps open. Is this typical?

This probably means that your CPU supports hyperthreading. Hyperthreading (HT) technology lets you get slightly more out of a chip by pretending that it is two CPUs, not one. The WCG application only uses one of these virtual CPUs, but it uses the real CPU almost to maximum capacity.
So, Task Manager reports 50%, but it lies. On the other hand, if you have a multi-core CPU, then you can crunch twice as much (using BOINC) by running the application on both real CPUs. |

The WCGrid_AutoDoc looks memory intensive also. Our end-users with only 256mb of ram noticed a performance drop with the grid installed. I'm showing them how to use sleep mode, and may consider the cpu throttle as well.

Yes. We're really not kidding around with the minimum system requirements. In fact, if your system doesn't meet the minimum for a project, you won't be sent any work for that project.
However, a healthy system will run perfectly with the minimum required spec. Just keep the disc defragmented, a contiguous pagefile, and clean out the cruft now and again. |
